I was listening to two people discuss a weekend football game once. I have little interest in sport myself but I was interested in this conversation as the two became more and more confused by what the other was saying until they realised they had been talking about two different games. One thought they were talking about AFL (an extremely popular football code native to my country Australia). The other thought they were talking about a soccer game. The two games basic premise and vocabulary were similar enough to create confusion (two teams running around kicking a “football” to score a “goal”)

It reminds me of how people use the same word “autism” but there understanding and experience of what the word means is so different. Eg Aspie Vs classic autism. a clinician Vs a self-advocate Vs a parent.
