Twitch Removes LGB Alliance From Approved Charities, Autism Speaks Remains

Quote:
In another statement, Twitch suggested it would not be removing Autism Speaks, saying that the “scale of this program may mean that people within our community may not agree with or support all of the included organizations, even if they are currently compliant with our policies”.

Both Twitch and Humble Bundle use the PayPal Giving Fund, a backend payment system connecting enrolled charities with platforms that wish to enable fundraising. While the Giving Fund collates thousands of charities, individual platforms are able to choose which charities are presented to users. At the time of writing, Humble still includes both Autism Speaks and LGB Alliance as charities users can choose to donate a portion of their purchases to, and has not commented on the backlash.

I don't use Twitch so I wasn't aware that they even had a charity scheme, but as an LGB Alliance supporter its disappointing to see that they don't want to promote them.

I acknowledge that both LGB Alliance and Autism Speaks are both controversial, but isn't it a bit hypocritical to allow one but not the other?

What exactly does LGB Alliance do, besides try to exclude trans people from what is otherwise known as the LGBT community?

I read an article a little while back that there was a split in this community in UK, when some trans people were openly suggesting gay people were basically in the wrong body & should change genders.

Naturally this angered many leading them to form their own groups.

Sounds like something similar here, but since i don't belong to LGBT I'm certainly not an expert.

Hmmm, I would be very surprised if any trans person in the modern Western world, at least, has ever made such a claim about gay people in general. Can you or anyone else here find this?

It is true that, in Iran, homosexual acts are forbidden but changing one's gender and physical sex is allowed. Thus, in Iran specifically, it is indeed believed that gay people are born in the wrong body. But not in the contemporary West.

The LGB Alliance folks apparently fear, for some reason, that the modern West is becoming or will become like Iran. At the very least, they fear that a lot of gay kids and teens are, or will be, driven by homophobia to consider themselves trans instead of gay. The question is whether, and to what extent, this is actually likely to happen in the modern Western world.

Some websites I keep in my favorites for a while but delete if their articles become less interesting or disagree on stuff

Unfortunately I deleted this one about a year or two ago (can’t remember the name) but the basic report did stay in my memory.

You’ve basically confirmed what I suspected.

I doubt their claims will become reality unless some supernatural event somehow causes massive numbers of people to become religious.

More chance hell freezing over ( sorry couldn’t resist the ironic quote there

Very little unfortunately, because whenever they have tried to, some people whinge on twitter and get their funding removed.

They are currently being sued by a well-funded hypocritical transgender-specific charity, who thinks it is unacceptable for there to be a homosexuality-specific charity. This further limits what they can do as they are having to spend time and money on defending this.
