Did anyone see the MSNBC Dateline Story, "Appointment for Murder" broadcasted on Sunday evening March 16th, 2008?

It was about Hans Peterson and how he confessed to murdering a Dermatologist, Dr. Cornbleet in Chicago and he is now hiding
out in a jail in the Caribbean Islands as the Feds are unable to extredite him to the United States to face murder charges.

What distressed me is that they portrayed the website Wrong Planet.net in the newscast and stated that Hans Peterson posted on
the Wrong Planet.net website believing that he has Asperger's Syndrome. This kind of negative media representation does not
fairly portray Wrong Planet.net...and now, more than ever, all members of Wrong Planet.net should demand a fair and balanced
view of Wrong Planet.net. With April designated as Autism month, I believe MSNBC Dateline should do a story on Wrong Planet.net and present all the good that Alex has done for all of us, far more than Autism Speaks.

Should anyone wish to see the MSNBC Dateline Story, it is currently on the MSNBC website, with the headline "Appointment for
Murder" as of March 17, 2008...however, it won't shown anything on Wrong Planet.net as they discussed on the MSNBC broadcast on Sunday evening, March 16, 2008. Send your comments you have to MSNBC Dateline!

It's really freaky to think that someone accused of murder is on this website... 8O

I heard about this. I was on here during the William Freund case as well.

I have felt angry/hurt/demoralized enough to think I wanted to kill several people over my lifetime, but as yet have not acted on these desires.

Geez, I wonder if MSNBC is reading our posts??? 8O

It's probably Hans Peterson who posted this thread.

As much I hate the idea that I might engage in a pleasant conversation on the internet with someone capable of murder, it is a reality I have to accept. We only see a very small side of someone here. It would be unreasonable to assume that in 17,000 members there would not be any bad eggs, so to speak. Statistics demand that there would be.

I am not going to allow it to turn me into a paranoid poster that is suspicious about everyone I post with. Perhaps I hope that kindness to a monster may make him less of a monster. Perhaps I simply wish to forget it is possible.

I don't know what to say about the mention in the news story. Long run, every large community is going to end up tainted in this way. Again, statistics demand it. As long as they failed to suggest anyone here fed the guy's negative tendencies, and the reporters only used the reference to fill out his personality, I am not sure it is something to be outraged over. Still, something positive in return would be nice. I am not happy about the news media's propensity to point out the Aspergers tag on people that do not represent the Aspie community as a whole in any way. It encourages negative stereotypes.

You know, I just had a thought...

How do we know that what Dateline showed last night is fact?

I think given the right circumstances anyone could be driven to murder. I would like to see justice done but I certainly can pity this man who I still consider human. If not for the grace of God I might have ended up that way not too long ago.

I wonder how they know he posted here. The bad publicity is unfortunate and misleading.

With 17,000 registered members and 5.7 murders per 100,000 people. Theres a very good chance at least one person here is a murderer. Looks like we found out who it is.

And of course I do think it's a good idea for MSNBC to do a report on Wrongplanet.net, the more press organizations that are a true representation of the needs of autism and AS get the better.

I was thinking the same thing, except that this is our second murderer. This site was mentioned in news stories about the other one too.

Is there an inordinate number of Aspies who are murderers? 8O

I was on a board where there was a murderer, they did the same and showed the board on the news. It soon blew over though. I doubt there was interest for more than 48 hours really.
