"While these individuals are all very different, they share a common bond. All are autistic or have Asperger's Syndrome. To some extent, their accomplishments and interests may go unnoticed by people outside their immediate social circles - a result of the impaired social interaction and communication that characterize both conditions - but they are celebrated here: at the Neuro-Networking Club": http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2009 ... news09.txt

Yes the fact that socialization can occur without alcohol is nice & don't know if I would use it as a dating club though ;)

True, but I thought there could be a posibility that you had previously lived in Missoula or just visited maybe. It seems odd if you haven't because it is such a small city and unless you have been here it is unlikely you would have heard of the Missoulian.

Missoula! I live in Missoula now! I'm a student at UM!
When and where can I find these people?! I always thought I was the only person with AS on campus. This is like finding the land of milk and honey for me, thank you.

I want to find these people as well. Tomorrow at the Adams Center is a Spring Hullabaloo at 1pm. Autism Awareness event. I am planning on going and trying to find out more about this club. You should come.

I'm coming too. I'm excited by the prospect, though I find it ironic that in order to find Aspies, I'm going to have to go to an enormous social gathering.

Excellent! Yes, it seems very ironic, but I think it will be worth an hour or two of uncomfortableness.

I havn't heard of the Missoulian before I read the article. I found the article by searching the term "Asperger" on "Google News".

You can contact the Neuro-Networking Club of Missoula through their webpage: http://www.umpsyc.com/NDClub.html

Oh! Well, that makes more sense. I don't know why that didn't cross my mind.

Anyways, thanks for making the thread!

Bluestocking, I will keep my eyes open for your black hat and purple scarf.

It was fun meeting you today, WaterWater! It's funny how the event was so very un-catering to people with AS, but we still managed to have fun, didn't we? I'm glad to have met you, I hope to see you again soon. :D

Yes, it was much fun meeting you today. I was thinking about the event afterwards and I have come to the conclusion that it may not have been intended for people with AS but for family and friends of people with Autism and perhaps a few who just liked the music. I figure this because we already are aware of Autism but the ones who maybe are not must be notified and to make it fun for them equals not so much fun for those on the spectrum. Weird how it works out that way. Nothing says Autism Awareness more than holding an event that requires ear protection for the sensitive people so we stick out even more in the crowd - SEE US NOW?!
