People of Earth,

Don't be afraid. We come in peace. Pass the Cheetos.

Praying Mantises have only one ear? I'm going to look that up.

Looked up. They have one ear!! On their thorax! That is so cool.

I just got what may be the last (tho I hope not) Terry Pratchett book. I look forward to staying up all night reading it.

In one ear and out the other topic

You learn more about insects here every day. And Kafka's story about The Metamorphosis is the Uber Insect story, though not about a Mantis. Just as well. The female Praying Mantis eats her male mate's head during copulation, as apparently the chances of fertility are greatly improved because of this encepahlocannibalism.

That was scary. Except for the fact that I live in my son's basement, that could almost be me! (Okay, and I'm female and not particularly interested in "getting to know" females of the Earthling variety. Now Michael Weiss can come chat with me if he wants, as long as he promises not to compare me unfavorably with his no-doubt gorgeous girlfriend...)
