_

the title state it all... in the last 2 years I have observed the evolution of a stronger popular emphasis on the "condition". , which I find sad. The last one was ADHD, before that SIDS, before that AIDS, etc etc. (Prediction: Depression $40 bet)

I am wondering - would those that belive that they are predisposed antisocialites, rather that from now on your a publicly classified and maybe even ridiculed and or zealously "catered for" by the bleeding hearts, or just plain old left alone , the way it was -> to in effect not have externeal influences on your formulation of your social instincts (which we all know are more evolved than NT's - but would be difficult to procure succinctly when the environment un-blindfolded. hence ruining our experiment)

I hear tourette syndrome is becoming trendy.

I don't believe that AS social instincts are more evolved than NTs, nor do I think AS = high IQ. That's narcissistic bull.

I think it's a trade-off between social ability, and hyperfocus + memory. Not better, not worse - just different.

Some aspies would trade their "nerd powers" for NT-style "mindreading", but I've also talked with some NTs who wished they had gifts most aspies take for granted, even if it meant trading in their social ability.

Good points, ghostpawn!

I like how you described the way different people feel about the subject. I'd like for us to get more media attn, but not out of sympathy, but awareness, to facilitate acceptance and understanding of us. It's all in how it is presented.

You know what gets me?

The people who whore their condition off to earn money and "fame" from it. It's sickening.

Helen Keller had to go on the vaudeville circuit to pay the bills. That's sickening. Look at me, I'm entertainment!

I look forward to the day when they all get over it already and we can start earning a living like everyone else. But I think they have to start talking accommodations before that can happen. And that won't happen as long as we're still exotic.

I'm reading up on disability rights activism, and it's interesting how, once we started getting ramps, we started seeing more people in wheelchairs, and we started seeing how many people use them for mobility. And now that they're on the regular buses, we see even more how many people actually use them. I think it's like that for us - we go from invisible to exotic to neighbourly, as we get included in society. At least we can hope, right?
