Denied! NY vetoes Autism Spectrum care
A bill to expand care for treatment of autism spectrum was vetoed by outgoing NY Governor David Paterson in a victory for health insurers and their lobbyists. As 23 other states fight to prevent insurers discriminating against kids with autism, Paterson defied a unanimous Legislature in a veto, citing hotly contested projections.

I'm so glad he has the guts to take a stand.

Ignorance. Gotta love it.

This was a pretty significant deciding factor in my family's move out of NY several months ago (we saw the writing on the wall). Our insurance company wouldn't even pay for my son's evaluation initially. We had to fight them for months over this, and just for a diagnosis - not even treatment. It's sad. Really, really sad.

Yeah, I'm a New York resident. One of many reasons Governor Patterson's an idiot. Spitzer was a lot of bad things (for those who don't know, he got caught with a prostitute, who by the way is now running for Governor as a third-party candidate) but he was no idiot. Were it not for those issues (which yes, I know or major) he would have been great. Patterson's just a jerk. And you'd think for someone with a disability himself (he's legally blind) he'd know better. But apparently not. I'll save you from my schpiel as to why NY should elect Warren Redlich (Libertarian Party) governor next week, because most of you don't live in the state anyway.
