Quite encouraged by this (though I'm not so pleased for example with how the article describes Asperger's as a condition one "suffers" from).

I'd love to own a bookshop. Books make better companions than most people.

But what's so wrong with saying one 'suffers' from AS? Granted alot of people don't see it that way, but not everyone sees it as a blessing either.

It doesn't sit right with me. Using the word "suffer" suggests that it's directly because of AS, and in turn "suffer" has overtones as if it was an illness, causing pain.

There's more to suffering that apparently comes from Asperger's than meets the eye. It is most likely due to misunderstandings and how people react to an Aspie's traits.

Asperger's is an inherently different way of functioning to neurotypicality, not a disease one suffers from that is somehow more impaired than neurotypicality. I for one find my AS actually greatly advances me in certain areas so cannot see how I'm not blessed by it.

I totally understand where you're coming from and agree that it shouldn't be portrayed as a disease or disorder, but personally for me it's a double edged sword. While I see alot of positives to AS, alot of the traits I have that steam directly from Asperger's have caused me alot of problems and suffering. Then again, it's not that NT's don't also suffer from characteristics that are inherit to being of a regular neurology.

Not to get off-topic. I'm just not that bothered by the implication that some of us have a hard time due to it, besides hardships related to fitting in socially and so-on.
