opening night premiere of Mary and Max, a Claymation film about a pen-pal relationship between a lonely 8-year-old girl in Australia and a 44-year-old Jewish man in New York who has Asperger syndrome. Cooper says it's "a great story — dark and twisted and odd.":

"Mary and Max" is only the second animated film to earn the prestigious opening slot. It follows the success of writer/director Adam Elliot's short "Harvie Krumpet," which premiered at the festival in 2003 and won the Academy Award in 2004 for best animated short.

there was another aspergers film at sundance - 'Adam'. the audience reaction was 'tear-stained cheeks and thunderous applause' - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sundanc ... ns-of.html

it's a short, but it got picked up by a movie studio so there's a decent chance of it being made into a feature length movie.

And what will happen in the evening in the forest with the weasel with the teeth that bite so sharp when you’re not looking in the evening?

Both Max Mayer's movie "Adam" and my movie "If You Could Say It In Words" are playing at the Method Fest later this month in Los Angeles. Wrong Planet review here

This is a really good opportunity get some good conversation going about the portrayal of autistics in film and other media, because the two movies have very similar plots but very different tones. It's also a great opportunity to show Hollywood that movies with characters on the spectrum are not automatically "fringe movies". If both of these movies are able to pack the house it will go a long way to demonstrating how big a part of our populace is connected in some way to autism. I am encouraging anyone in the area to come out and see both, and hopefully to get some discussion going on the similarities and differences between them.

Details of both screenings can be found at www.methodfest.com; more info on my movie can be found at www.IfYouCould-Movie.com/Festivals.
