Because of my sensory issues I always have some part of my body tensed up. Before it was my forehead and that gave me wrinkles.

But I noticed my tummy aching and I didn't know why. My boyfriend told me I looked like I was losing weight. I told him I didn't weigh any less.

So then I noticed I was holding my tummy in without realizing it. I have been trying not to clench my forehead so instead I started clenching my tummy.

Apparently this build's mussels in that area and helps you look thinner.

Yay aspergers!! !!

You just discovered an aspie super power

One of my stims is my face by narrowing my eye brows or raising them so no doubt I'd have wrinkles there soon

Yes that's the one that I was doing before. I have wrinkles but it took about 2 years for them to form from it.

i've been doing the same thing for years now, since about grade 7 or 8. whenever i'm standing my abs aren't completely clenched, but they're tight. i think i started doing it because it made me look thinner, now i just do it because i've been doing it for so many years. i think it's probably also a healthy thing to do, you're less likely to hurt your back if your core is properly stabilized, so keeping your abs somewhat tight should help prevent back injury. i can't say whether or not it helps me with weight loss or if it's added any abdominal muscle since i've been doing it for so long and back when i started it wasn't very easy to notice a slight change in ab muscle size (i.e. i was overweight, that was probably about my biggest, not my heaviest but definitely my chubbiest).

anyways i'm glad to see it's been working for you, keep it up. AS also helped me lose weight but in a different way. my bike tried to kill me about a month ago (going down a really steep hill the handlebar stem snapped, a car was turning right onto a street right in front of me, i managed to turn onto a sidewalk and coast to a stop without a scratch) so i got a new road bike and i've been obsessed with biking since. I bike everywhere i need to go, which usually adds up to 30mins to an hour a day, and i've been adding in short rides (30mins minimum, usually 45mins-1hr, sometimes 1.5hrs-2hrs) i've lost at least 5lbs since i got my bike and i've been eating a lot more. i also think i've put on some thigh muscle, and my calves have definitely gotten bigger so i may have lost more than 5lbs of fat. the docks have gone in at the rowing club and my exams are done next tuesday, so rowing will start sometime next week (likely thursday) so i should be a lightweight in no time (i've got to lose 10lbs by early july, which will be easy, last year i was at least 5lbs heavier, in worse shape, and i had a car so i wasn't biking all over the place)

Hey, me too! I involuntarily hold my abs, and even though it can be a b***h to run with (I can't unclench them easily), it is a nice perk.

:D

getting a flat stomach is almost impossible. not only to you have to do crunches and sit ups for tone, but to lose it you have to lose weight all over the body. then you've got to make sure to keep the weight off, so you've got to cut out alcohol, fast food and fried foods.

It's easy for me. For reasons that are entirely different than the topic, I both forgo alcohol and have a regular fitness activity/routine. Having a "flat stomach" is a nice perk that comes automatically when you already have a healthy lifestyle.

Make healthy choices at the fastfood place, or just forgo it altogether. I cut my dependence on fastfood when I switched to the convenience of ricecakes.

Unfortunately I can be tensed up, but the muscles the least likely to tense up are those near my belly.

I do that. I clench my belly muscles inward and pull my spine out straight...

Well sorry to ruin your expectations but it's likely (other than postural habits that might need ... other abdominal muscles that are more related to breathing) that getting bigger abs would thicken your stomach over all , doing stuff with the muscles underneath doesn't seem ( scientifically speaking) toreduce the fat layer on top....

want an example? britney spears in 98 and in 2k ( i think i'm just quoting stuff ) after lots of abdominal workouts achieved the big milestone of having maybe an extra inch of muscle pushing out her well by that time a belly out.

Same thing here, I was always skinny but when I was a kid I had a tiny bit of fat on my stomach, then I started tensing it, and it soon became involuntary :D I eat a tonne, but I don't gain weight *kisses thyroid*
