One thing different for me is, I have low arches in my feet. If I wear any sort of shoe with like, significant cushion inside, ala a running shoe, I get plantar fasciitis. So the shoes with more "support" are worse for me. So I wear like cheap Converse and my feet feel fine, then more "advanced" shoes they feel like crap.
Same with beds I guess.
Read the book Born to run will explain all the Shoe issues.
In short though, Fancy high arch shoes and all those Advance rubbish = Keeps your feet under developed, has absolutely no use and raises the risk of injury in the knees and tendons if your a runner. The modern shoes all based off Nike's trainers have only been around since the 60s and 70s and there has been almost to research to see if all these "Functions" Actually help you.
The book sums it up better.
