I'm sending you my best thoughts to get through that! The actual barium enema is nothing, but the starvation is a BIG thing for me, and I don't know how I'd handle it.
My only thought would be for you to ask if you can DRINK a protein shake or something; or maybe get a Vitamin B12 shot. I actually get angry and mean if my blood sugar dives low, which it does if I don't eat for a day.
Hang in there, and just know that you're suffering a bit now, to prevent potential BIGTIME suffering later if something were wrong and went unknown.

thank you for the best thoughts!
that is a good idea with the protein shake... i will definitely ask that next time (i'm going to have to fast/starve again for a colonoscopy). i will maybe also ask if i can avoid starving by opting for a regular enema or something instead of a liquid diet. i was sucking back the beef broth, but it has so little protein in it that it was not too helpful.
i feel a lot better knowing that someone who is fit like you has similar difficulty with low blood sugar. i wonder if it is a function of getting in the (good) habit of eating small meals often. it's great for the metabolism, but seems sort of problematic in those rare occasions when fasting is necessary.
it's so true that it is better that it gets found out right away instead of getting worse and being unnoticed until later on.
