what could cause my willy to go cold-numb after bicycling?

It could well be peripheral vascular disease if you're already being treated wih BB and statins. I know it costs money, but you should probably get it checked out- if you leave it it can get worse.

i will do as a web doc suggested, and not bike for a week, then i will do as leejosepho suggested and zero-out physical problems associated with riding a bike [i.e, sitting on it while stationary to see if it is the seat- i already know that standing while pedaling doesn't give me the frozen pork like sitting and pedaling has done. if it is a problem with my particular body build [tall and gangly] riding a bike, then i may just have to give up the last exercise i can do out here in the sticks and just get fat. but fat still beats numbnutter.

Fair enough. But if it still occurs or recurrs, I still think you should probably see someone about it :)

That said, how far do you cycle every day? I doubt even a special saddle is 100% numb-proof!

about 2 hours, up and down hills which combines aerobic and anaerobic exercise. i combine this with calisthenics such as pushups and crunches and inverse push-ups. this has made me fairly taut like when i was younger and it would be a beech to have to give it up and lose the physical conditioning i've gained over the past 2 years. again, i reiterate that this regimen only recently caused this problem, within the last week.

Wow, you're way healthier than I am! It may be that you just need to cycle a bit less each day; you could always replace it with swimming or something (I'm not a fitness coach... should probably google it)

the weather outside was just too beautiful today, i could not resist, so i determined i would go out and do some biking. but before i did that, i rummaged through my old clothes until i found a jock strap i had not worn since i was in the 6th grade, several decades back- amazingly i still fit into it normally! this both elated me and depressed me at the same time [guess why?] thank god for elastic 8)
anyways, i went out riding the usual but abbreviated circuit, and 99% of the problem vanished. so the jock strap saved the day. i guess my package just was telling me it needed more pampering and protection from the elements. but now i have a stye in my eye, so it's always one damned thing after another, no?

thank you :) your pics you displayed in another thread, seem to me to also be that of somebody youthful and buff, no? but i had to give up the swimming because i had to move out into the sticks and the nearest lap pool is a 2-hour drive. i used to swim a mile of laps most nights, it satisfyingly worked-off the stress from my [un]civil-service job after hours and enabled me to stay sleek enough to fit into my old clothes. also my shoulders started clicking [arthritis] so my doc said to try a different exercise. arthritis in the back and knees vetoed running again, but bicycling on an upwards or recumbent bike was just what the doctor ordered. i would be glad to do more walking but i can't outrun the nasty uncurbed dogs [or their yahoo human owners] in my neighborhood that way. so biking it will have to be until the biking parts of me wear out also. i hope by then i will just be fit for the grave.
i have cut my biking time by a third, hopefully this will work on all fronts.

I'm glad you found a solution!

Nah, thanks for the compliment but I think you may be mistaking me for someone else; I don't post pictures of myself here. I had Marlene Dietrich as my avatar for a while though; if it's her you're referring to, I'm sure her ghost is flattered :D

Definitely ask a doctor if you're concerned, but the coldness could be normal. The reason that the testes are in the sack outside the body, is that they must be kept cooler than body temperature or the sperm will die. So it would stand to reason, that if you're exerting yourself biking, the rest of your body would heat up, and the mentioned area should remain cool. Not numb though, in my experience. Not sure what that could be.

That would require quite an interesting-looking bicycle seat, eh?!

It's a pity that some chose to ridicule a perfectly normal question.

I'm approaching 50 and ride a bike still. I have to say that while I haven't encountered numbness like the one you describe from after a bike ride, there are other postures/situations that would cause a willy to go numb, somewhat like when your legs or arms do the same, I think it's quite normal and probably nothing to worry too much over but, if you have real concerns, go to see a professional rather than an online solution.

thank you squonk :)
i seem to have stumbled upon a cure when i was digging through some old childhood clothing i had in boxes- i found my 6th grade jock strap and put it on and went riding, et voilà!- cold numbness gone.

Is a jock strap a US thing? I know they are something that sports people wear kind of universally. but as a chosen undergarment I'm not sure.

i wish i could tell you if it is only an american thing or not, but i should think the need to guard the family jewels would be an international concern. playing sports/vigorous exercise rattles the jewelry, that is where the jock strap ["athletic supporter"] comes into play.
