the theory on these sites has to do with the idea that the coldness stimulates appetite. looks like i was thinking in terms of an outmoded reason and newer research disproved the old theory of fat being an insulation, but the point still stands. swimmers tend to be fatter than, i.e. runners.

do you live in france?

my friend went to paris and was not allowed in the pool for that very reason.

What possible explanation is there for something so stupid. Anybody shed some light.

OT i reckon swimming is rite good exercise and the low impact nature of it means it is quite safe

Well French people are well known for being dirty proles and to avoid people swimming in the same shorts they run around they banned all kinds of shorts. So speedoos for "Hygiene" reasons. Pretty f-ing stupid, uh?

I used to swim a lot-until,living in the tropics,I got numerous Staph infections.Serious ones...long story short,I haven't gotten in the water in literally years.Only in the Adriatic Sea.It's not so exciting getting in water that's 78 degrees and it's 79 air temperature.Call me weird, but I love stimulation of COLD water and having to swim and work at it to keep warm and get your body temperature going.I developed really strong arms and legs from a lot as a youngster.Never have done freestyle or butterfly successfully though. How in the hell are you supposed to breathe?!I can't!
