I find them fascinating, but absolutely vile to eat - taste and texture wise, I wish it wasn't so.
I also enjoy psilocybin inspired computer games i.e. Mario

I can't get enough- they're creamy to me, texture-wise,
and the only thing I can taste other than condiments and fruit. :D

I do still play Mario 64 (N64). o_O Maybe there's a connection.

I quite like mushrooms. My favorite are probably just plain portabella mushrooms, the small ones, though, not the monster sized ones. The small ones I think actually taste better, and they're easier to work with. Like some people like frying/grilling the giant ones and making them into burgers, but I feel they're just awkward to cook.

My favorite recipe for mushrooms, is pretty much make a Philly cheese steak with mushrooms. Saute some onions up in oil, along with some green peppers or red peppers (or if you're using jarred red peppers, then put those in last as they're already cooked and just need to be heated) the peppers take the longest to cook. Possibly add a little Adobo/seasoning salt to it, too, not too much. For a sauce, use Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce, usually more Worcestershire sauce than soy sauce, and keep adding a little water (like 5mm) as the sauce boils off (unless you want more sauce, don't use too much soy sauce, though, it's too salty) then once the peppers are almost done and to the point of softness you want, then add your mushrooms, fresh or canned, obviously fresh is better. The mushrooms go last, as they don't need much cooking time. Then, you can either put it in your bread of choice like that with maybe some hot sauce on it, OR go melt cheese on, my favorite cheese to melt on it is provolone, though whole milk mozzarella comes a close second. If you wanna have a bit more "volume" to this, oddly enough, chickpeas work quite well in the sandwich, so you can basically add as many canned chickpeas as you have mushrooms, and it's quite good that way. I've not tried other beans for "volume" though, but chickpeas work well with it, imo. But, more mushrooms, the better. Obviously, too, you can add meat, too, but it's good without it.

I wasted my mushrooms:/ maybe next time I'll actually open them out of the package and get the balls to try em'. I only had a few biggish ones anyway, doubt I could do much with them.

Well the big ones you can turn into small ones with a knife. But then if you're doing that, why pay the premium for big ones? Just, the smaller a piece of food is, more flavor it can absorb and less time it takes to cook. That said, the big portabellas are cool if you want just one, and make it like...a burger. Generally my favorite seasoning for mushrooms is that, though, add some Worcestershire and soy sauce, and a hint of adobo/garlic/onion powder, and yeah. The Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce is quite good for making things like, meatier tasting and adding the right color. I used to fool people into thinking ground turkey in tacos was beef by adding soy sauce to darken it.

Wiggin, if you care, the Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies usually (unless you find some odd vegan one.) So... I don't know if you could make an exception for not very sentient small fish in tiny amounts in sauce, but it's quite good stuff.

I've got mushrooms, I've got acid,
I've got tabs and aspirin tablets....

Mushrooms are great. Love mushrooms. They're very easy to saute.

The canned ones are disgusting. I'd would always get fresh if I were you. Just Check where the the cap and the stem meet and only pick the firmest ones. It's well worth your while to pick decent mushrooms.

Lately I've been eating a fair amount of dried shiitake mushrooms. Dried mushrooms are a much better alternative to canned. The Chinese believe most mushrooms should be dried first before eating. All you do is either soak them sometimes, or just boil them, and tada. I think the Chinese believe by drying them, the toxic parts are removed or something. Either way they're cheaper. Shiitakes are good for the immune system, too, so yeah.

Do the dried ones taste different to the fresh ones? I think canned shiitakes are disgusting, but fresh ones are okay (not my favourites, though).

Just made a chicken and broccoli stir fry with Crimini Mushrooms for the first time. It was incredible! I want more... MMMM! Really interesting taste. Not offensive at all and neither is the texture.

Most things taste far worse canned.

Boyfriend recently grilled some portabella caps for us, using BBQ sauce as a marinade. They were heavenly!! !
