People freaking out that I'm vegan
Magical psychic powers? No. But you admitted you judge them and think less of them - even if you aren't doing it consciously, they can likely tell this fact.
Bingo!
I think less of people who bite their nails, chew with their mouths open, or find their bodily functions such as passing gas or belching to be a source of humor in public. What makes it normal or rational to attack based on the perception that I think of those things as being pretty repugnant?
I'm assuming nothing, since no one does that.
But they launch into these ridiculous defenses of their eating habits, as if I care what leads to those behaviors.
It's really anti-social, and it seems to be the exception most otherwise tolerable people make in terms of getting on the defensive without provocation. It's sad.
You explain it yourself, yet you cant see it.
It is only an example: "So I think that people that use as an avatar the picture of a half naked woman are worthless perverts." (This is REALLY only an example. Personally, in summer I run around naked at my house and garden. ^^) According to NT-rules with such words I directly attack your worthyness among the group and people around. A defense is a normal and typical reaction to an attack. (I dont want to discuss if its logical, but defending is simply an normal NT reaction against attackers.) It is alos an provocation. Offending people IS a provocation AND an attack.
As you say yourself, you tell people that they would have less worth because of.... According to NT rules this is an offense. You can discuss about is as long as you want, but you will have to have that discussion with the entire NT world if you want to change that.
When I say I think less of people, I literally mean I think they are inconsiderate. And I don't tell people this, I don't say this to these people. Work on your reading comprehension skills.
If the normal social reaction to disliking my dietary choices is to send me pictures of a house cat burnt to death or a pig that has been violently stabbed dozens of times, that's an entirely different conversation.
I don't think the avatar example works, because it's literally me in the avatar.
However, and this is not just an example, I think people who support sending grotesque pictures of bloodied and beaten animals is anything more than inconsiderate, are sick f***s I don't want to talk to. So yeah, you're f*****g sick for making any defense of the behaviors I've described, really f*****g sick.

My son is also vegan. Our only difficulty is in finding a restaurant that serves food we both like. He's trying to get me to eat more veggies, but aside from anything more complex than a tossed salad or boiled greens, there is not much about a vegan diet that appeals to me.
Anyone who can thrive on a strictly vegan diet has my respect.
I have respect for vegans who do it without being so set up for it like I am, if I weren't allergic to so many things, I don't know if I would. If I liked the taste or smell of meat, I probably wouldn't even be a vegetarian.
I'm a pretty selfish person in that regard. I make those same judgements when I am around someone eating meat because the smell is just noxious to me. I pretty much judge other people on a similar basis to how I judge myself.

Eww, that sort of reactions sounds really bad.
I'm a vegetarian, and most people are OK with it. Not all of them actually understand it, but they don't have to, as long as they accept my choice. "I don't like meat" is my primary reason, too, but the ethical aspect also matters.
Perhaps you'd get the same strange look a few decades ago when you said you didn't smoke... so I'm confident that having a vegan/vegetarian diet will be socially accepted soon.
There's only one person in my family with whom I got in an argument about it. She said things like: "A vegetarian diet will destroy your body and brain, you'll fail your studies and end up homeless." Now I haven't eaten any meat for the past year (except the meat with which she secretly cooked my "vegetable soup" when I visited her
), and my studies are still going well, so I think I could prove her wrong.
I don't plan on actually becoming a vegan, but I'm currently trying to reduce my milk consumption, which is, I think, too high (half a liter, mostly with cereal, plus a few slices of cheese per day).
I feel the same way about tofu - it always smells "off" to me, and its flavor seems somewhat akin to river muck - but lots of people like it, so obviously tofu must have something going for it that they enjoy.
Have you ever tried bulgar wheat? I've heard that its texture appeals to non-vegetarians, but I can't seem to find it at the local grocer's.
When some people find out that you don't do something that they do they get defensive thinking that you are condemning them for doing it and you must have something against it since you don't do it.
I've seen plenty of vegans online that act all superior about it and very insulting to people who are not vegan. People like that need to realize that they aren't going to abuse and bully people into being the same as them. That is more likely to repel them from doing what you want. In real life most vegetarians/vegans just not eat meat and don't make a big deal about it or force it on others. I do have an uncle that I think is rude about it because if my mother buys a cooked chicken for example he says "I smell ****". He brings my mother grocery shopping.
Do crazy arguments like this come from a kind of Solipsism? Or maybe it's Egocentrism?
What Hanyo describes is something that seems really common. Even people who are heavy drinkers may be offended if they meet someone who abstains from alcohol, as if that choice implies condeming their behavior.
It's like people take note of how their lives are going, and use that as a standard for everyone. If they're married with a few kids, and someone else is continually single, it makes them upset.

It doesn't sound like everyone is freaking out about it, it sounds like they have probably been the victim of a lot of crap directed toward them by other vegans. Anyone who joins what is perceived to be an extreme group is going to get that knee jerk reaction from others. While most vegans aren't the nutjobs like the ones who scream at people for eating a hamburger or throw blood on ladies who are wearing fur, that particular type of vegan is the most vocal and unfortunately it's what pops into many people's minds when they hear "vegan", while "vegetarian" conjures up images of laid back hippies who don't care what others do or don't eat. It's like the difference between saying "Baptist Church" and "Westboro Baptist Church" - and no I am not comparing veganism to WBC, I'm just using an analogy.
Another thing is you say you are judging and you think less of tem but you don't say anything. Sometimes even without saying something, people's opinions tend to be obvious. You may be getting more of the judgmental and superior attitude across to them without meaning to or knowing you do it.
I think the person who keeps sending you the pictures is ridiculous and while he's probably against veganism, he seems to lack the ability to argue his stance so he resorts to juvenile methods.
If I were you I'd just say vegetarian and simply decline offers of things which are by products of animals. You don't have to say you are allergic to meat, you can simply put your hand on your belly, shake your head and with a sad look say "Oh, no thank you, my stomach...." and unless they are close family they won't ask.
You could also say in a very upbeat way "I'm giving veganism a try. It may be difficult at first but I'd like to see if I can do it. Wish me luck!" and smile at them. When they ask why you are doing it say 'Oh, lots of reasons but I don't want to discuss them and get into all that. What you been up to lately?"

Animals are way too tasty for me to not eat them. What I don't get is eggs. How the hell does anyone eat them? They don't taste good, and cooking them produces a smell that turns my stomach. I don't even like sitting at the same table where other people are eating eggs because sometimes I get a good whiff and come close to launching my food at them, and not what I have on my plate.
I don't care what other's eat and not eat.
The thing about some vegans is that they can be very judgmental of people who do not live by their way. Same could be said for meat eaters who don't believe in a vegan lifestyle too, like you may have experienced. Sometimes I can sense a vegan friends disrespect of my lifestyle, I can feel their disrespect just by being around them, seeing them look at me while I eat foods they do not agree with, or when I'm listening to them talk. Nobody likes a I am higher than thou attitude, besides maybe others like them.
You seem to have strong beliefs, they go far enough to the point of disrespecting others who do not live by your rule, so perhaps your negativity radiates off of you and brings out negativity in other people. I can certainly feel your disdain for people from reading some of your posts and if this is any indication to how you are in person, people may get bad vibes from the way you speak or act.

Yay! Meems finally hates me!
Who knew all it would take is eating meat and biting my fingernails?
(kidding
I've noticed it's not just vegetarians and vegans who get those reactions.
I get them all the time for not eating eggs or bacon - I can't stand the taste or texture of either and have never been able to.
I very literally used to have people try to physically make me eat or drinks things that would make me seriously ill.
Their logic is as simple as "I eat heaps of this every day and I'm fine, you're just making this up".
Surprisingly I've also had vegetarians have goes at me for buying sustainably and ethically produced and raised meat and diary products. (which I find incredibly weird, because most of them eat dairy products and those cows are kept in horrid, unhealthy and unethical conditions - somehow they think torturing an animal for 20 years is better than killing it? Such logic is beyond me if it is a choice based on ethics. o.O )
I found that a lot of people (mostly ignorant, uneducated and downright obnoxious people) exited my life after my diagnosis of my medical condition that radically changed my diet. They automatically labelled me as "not fun" anymore and most of them dropped me. I wasn't sad to see them go, as most of them weren't contributing much as people anyway.
But I have also found a lot of people have some deep internal need to "food police" everybody else - some are shoving candy at me or telling me to eat a burger so I gain weight. Others are busy telling me how "fattening" coconut is and that I should stop eating it. I think the food police thing seriously plays into it because so many people engage in it that it has become a societal norm - a very mentally unhealthy one but it is pervasive all the same.

Eating them is pretty simple. You simply have to realize that we are not Borg, and that they taste not good for you, while for lots of other people they taste very good. So eating eggs for people that like eggs, is as easy as it is for you eating something you like.
I feel the same way about tofu - it always smells "off" to me, and its flavor seems somewhat akin to river muck - but lots of people like it, so obviously tofu must have something going for it that they enjoy.

Tofu by itself is strange and gross. If I need extra protein I sometimes blend it with fruit and almond milk in the morning for breakfast.
I have celiac, so I don't think I can eat bulgar wheat.
I mostly am fine with just straight fruits and vegetables as meals.

Me thinking less of them seems to be really blown out of proportion, I literally just think they're being gross when they eat smelly meals around me or go on and on and on about how great bacon is, or make endless bacon jokes. It's not deeply offensive and it's not something I hate or despise, it's something that grosses me out, the same as if they had snot running down their face or they were talking about eating scabs or something. It's just gross, like most people are gross, like I myself can be gross, if it's ONLY coming across to people about my veganism, then they're missing 99% of what grosses me out about them. Most people do gross, inconsiderate crap all of the time. It's really only inconsiderate to people with sensory issues but either way if I react to it at all people get upset.
I took my dogs to this park area beside a small lake and I was walking them around the park and lake, then I stopped to relax in the picnic area and this guy sat down at the table I decided to sit at(my dogs are small and jumped directly onto the table) and FIRST he asked me get my dogs down. I was fine with that, even though literally EIGHT out of twelve tables were unoccupied and I didn't know this guy. Then he started eating and talking to me at the same time and I decided to move to another table and he was really offended. I couldn't cover my ears because I had the dogs on leashes and I just said "I HAVE TO MOVE I HAVE TO GO" because otherwise I would've spiraled into a sort of OCD episode similar to a meltdown, but I would've LIKELY tried to make my ears stop feeling horrible by stabbing them and I've already messed up my eardrums by doing that. So when I hear the sounds that f**k with my ears I just run if I can't cover them. It's horrible. It's just this horrible feeling like my entire ear canal has been filled with tiny silent fleas that are biting away and I can't stand it. I don't know why I react to open mouth chewing that way but it's just the worst thing I've ever heard in my life.
Also I think the guy who is responsible for most of the really gruesome pictures just got some of his work buddies to do it too. I mean I vaguely know all of them and his sister and I are really good friends, so I was hesitant to block numbers but I did. The only problem is that he usually texts me when he's going to pick up his nieces from my house OR drop them off without much notice.
He has a scar on his face from kindergarten, where I bit him, and wouldn't let go until teachers pried us apart. I also have scars from childhood from us just constantly abusing one another. I think our hatred for each other is ALMOST not so intense anymore but... I can't stand him and he can't stand me but we're still completely entwined in each others lives.

I think you are overdoing it sometimes. Normally people dont eat stuff, to be gross. They eat stuff, because they like it and it tastes good for them.
I absolutely cant stand the smell of ripe granted Parmesan. There are now two possibilities: The whole world has done a conspiracy against me, with the goal to tell people to use parmesan in salads and foods, with the only purpose that they gross me.
Or the other possibility is, that theere are many people who simply like stinking parmesan. ^^ This is not about being gross. They simply like parmesan, and thats why they eat it. And its a pretty normal food. I mean if someone brought with him that scandinavian mold fish delicatess, which is rather hard to get in my country and, simply because people are not used to the smell and taste of that, and starts eating that beside me while grinning and looking at me, I also would think that the person would want to terrorize me. But eating flesh is in our cultures rather normal, as is eating parmesan, so it is much likely that people eating those things simply like flesh or parmesan.
As my partner hates sea food. that I like. Neither do I want to gross him when eating seafood, nor does he want to gross me by eating parmesan. We simply eat it, because we like it. So sure we care for each other, so in earlier times my partner grated his fresh parmesan about half a meter upon his plate, so lots of the parmesan powder got into the air and it was horrible for me. Now he is grating his parmesan directly above his plate so it only falls about 5cm and then is bound to the food. While I try to eat my seafood in the most appetizing way, so normally I have the menu card in front of my plate, so he cant see me cutting the sea food, only the propper cutted pieces that are finally on my fork.
So I really dont know if you have some kind of war with some guys, and because of that they are really trying to gross you, but normally simply eat what they like because they like it and dont care to gross other people. Did you ever eat something you dont like, only because you wanted to gross someone?
