so, eating? Anyone else a Vegan? not judging other diets
what do you think of the news that most olive oils sold are either fake or rancid?
The claim of "fake" implies it may fe really canola or corn or something like that, when actually what they really mean in the real reporting is
if claimed as "extra virgin" it is merely "virgin" or second pressing, it is still from olive
also if you want to make sure your olive oil is fresh all you need to do is check actual pressing date and "use by dates" food labeling laws are very explicit about dates - "rancid" implies bad for you when past best by dates are really "most pleasant and nutritious dates" there is little/no danger from slightly older oil, it is not like old meat.

You dont need to believe someone. Its not about an religion. ^^ Its about personal life choices for yourself. The reason why you should try to get informations about food, is because of food being something important for us and having impact on our daily mood. Then according to the informations you have, and the feelings toward certain knowledge, choose what you think is best for yourself.

I eat flesh rarely (maybe 1-2 times a week), for me I dont have any personal dislikes of the general killing of animals. Its scientific causes that want me to support more organic farmers. The great usage of antibiotics is causing resistent bacterias and illnesses to grow, as well that there are actually tons of stuff used in industrial flesh industry that I dont want to eat, as hormons and steroids, ... But I live in a very rural area, so luckily getting "normal" flesh and milk from small farmers (Whose animals see sunlight and grass from spring to autumn.) is pretty easy and I dont have problems with that. As well that we have local slaughterers around here, so the animals dont get sent hundreds of miles without food or water or whatever. Same goes with eggs, milk, ... Seafish I avoid because of the high amount of heavy metal substances they already own, because of the sea pollution. Many of them get stored in your body your life long, so even if the fish have moderate amounts, if you eat them regularly, they will sum up in your body. But there are still farmers around here that have annual fishponds. As well that industrial flesh industry wastes lots of food, because the animals need to be feeded for months with an huge amount of food, but in the end deliver much less food, when they get slaughtered. So eating tons of flesh is as well a waste of food.
Its not about "to believe someone", but what you think yourself about certain topics, and how you feel about them. If someone tells me, that he dont eats flesh in general, sure I do believe the person, that he feels that way. But that does not make me feel that way.

I phrased my question sub-optimally, I should have asked "Which diet is better for me?" when there is a situation where party A says all of party B is no good, and party B says all of party A is no good, you can see how confusing that would be.

one thing I have found in my life, people are different, what may be a fantastic diet that benefits me perfectly will not work that great for you.
I can state fairly categorically that eating nothing but packaged foods with heavy chemicals and lots of additives is bad for everyone.
even that everyone should drink lots more water and eat fruits & vegetables.
It is also my personal belief no adult should be drinking or using dairy, we get weaned as children for a reason, milk is for babies.
Other than this, listen to your body. Try a bit of everything and work it out. One real rule don't overdo things, extremism usually does not work (so eating nothing but rice say - even brown rice, not good) Even drinking a glass of red wine a day is said to be good for you.
Even in my being Vegan I try to have a balanced diet.

What do feelings about information have to do with decisions about what to eat?
That's not a feeling; it's a proposition, a matter of fact. Either it's true (he doesn't eat flesh) or it's false (he does).

I eat a diet as close to the one our ancestors evolved on for millions of years as I can, with a few treats (read chocolate ice cream) thrown in on occasion, so I am not vegan no.
Whilst there were hominids whom lived on a mostly Vegetarian/Vegan diet during the process of evolution, contrary to popular belief those hominids were not the line of hominids that developed in to homo sapiens, although we did share a common ancestor at some point...millions and millions of years ago. The two lines diverged as did the line that chimps developed from...they could be considered our nearest cousins genetically but are not a direct ancestor as people seem to think...we did not start life out as a chimpanzees then slowly develop into homo sapiens. They had a different form to us in the sense that they were pot bellied and much shorter with smaller brains. Having a larger belly allowed them to better digest plant materials. The homo line (homo ergasta, homo erectus, homo sapien etc) had a smaller stomach, were taller, more muscular and had a bigger brain...due to the fact that they ate meat energy could be routed from the stomach to the brain in order to allow one to be small and one to be bigger.
On saying that I have seen two theories thus far...one that suggests it was increased omega 3 fat consumption that allowed for us to develop a large brain and smaller stomach and one that says it was meat consumption. However, due to the natural diets of the prey we ate back then the fat contained in their meat was different to the fat we eat from animals fed on farms with grains today. Wild game in the paleolithic contained more Omega fats than do the meat we eat which contain more saturated fats instead. The balance of Omega 6 and omega 3 has also been altered. Our ancestors diets were higher in omega 3 fats which have anti inflammatory properties as opposed to omega 6 which can cause inflammation.
According to the books I have read thus far. It is early days in regards to my reading though.
However, veganism is a very unnatural diet for our species.
I have heard mixed reviews on vegan diets but the fact that heavy supplementation is required to reach essential nutritional requirements concerns me. A vegan diet is a diet we can only survive on thanks to modern day technology...long term anyway. I know of several vegans who went paleo after being vegan for many years as after 5 plus years or so their vegan diet started making them sickly (nutritional deficiencies, consumptions of too many omega 6 fats in vegetable oils and over reliance on grains/carbohydrates and too little protien...they went on to develop metabolic syndrome diseases despite their healthy eating). They went paleo and their metabolic syndrome disease disappeared.
Anecdotal evidence also suggests that the paleo diet has helped those with autoimmune disorders as well as those with illnesses such as colitis, crones etc.
It recovered much of my physical health...before going to a more paleo based diet with some open meals where I included occasional grains and dairy, I was bed bound with constant dizziness, inability to sit upright, muscle pains, diarrhea so bad I was losing control of my bowl at times, crippling migraines that made me feel like I wanted to smash my head through the nearest wall, stomach pain, horrendous fatigue, sleep problems and so on. Most days I could not even move out of bed I felt so hideously ill. let alone ride a bus around all day visiting the coast.
I have not lost the weight I gained yet (I am not presently on the ketogenic version of the diet and I don't calorie count and neither am I as strict with it as I could be), but coming off all medications and going on the paleo diet save my physical health and it is only because of that I am now able to function anywhere near normally in terms of being able to get out bed for long enough to even enjoy my hobbies.
We have not changed much genetically since the palaeolithic, we basically have the same genes as they did yet our lifestyles are vastly different now and are basically making us sick....
I will continue to tweak my paleo diet as I feel it is the one that is most natural for my body and the key to good health due to that but whilst I will endeavour to purchase meat from sources where the animals were humanely treated and slaughtered (well cared for...just because I eat meat and feel it is natural for humans to do so, that does not mean I believe in abusing animals) I am not going to turn vegetarian or vegan any time soon.
I hope the OPs diet continues to work well for her though, people have a right choose what diet they want to live on. I don't believe in preaching and trying to convert people, although I am happy to pass on any information should people wish to hear it.

This thread was not supposed to turn into a flaming session of a shaming session if this continues I will ask for it to be locked - does everyone hear me!
I did not judge people for not being vegan do not tell me I am being wrong
it is quite possible to eat vegan - as I said for me it was an ethical decision and I could not give a rats a** what was done by my ancestors a million years ago. The meat they ate was a million times healthier than any meat I can buy in a store today - full of all sorts of adulterations (on top of the problems of just the ethical problems of me surviving on the suffering of another being)
I don't have to take ANY supplements, eating the balance of foods I do I get all the nutrients I need (how do you thing the meat animal you are getting your nutrition got all the the things it got? - it ate vegetation!) - proper balance just requires educating yourself and watching what you eat.
Too many Vegans eat at fast food restaurants or keep eating things like Oreos thinking just because it is NOT animal it is healthy - not the right way to go vegan. Proper balance of all proteins and Omegas can all be done without killing or torturing or maiming any other being.
as a matter of fact I eat little grain and have a fairly high protein diet. Much more high in vegetables and fruit though (unbeknownst to many many vegetables are great sources of digestible protein) - easier and healthier than meats - and there are a great variety of beans and legumes and nuts which provide both proteins and fats. For the omegas you have flax and Chia both healthier than fish since they have no evidence of pollution or mercury.

I was not flaming you, merely passing on information that I have come across in relation to reading I have been doing about the palaeolithic diet.
My error, I should know better by now than to try having an all round open discussion on the internet where many sides of the argument or alternative theories are open to being considered/discussed amicably without it being seen as a personal attack on someone.
fine start your own discussion about that diet, I don't go to gay mens forums annd yell about how lesbians are better, don't go to Christian forums and troll there, I am here discussing Vegan stuff with Vegans this is what this thread is about

I do have my own thread on the paleo diet and I wouldn't mind if people with alternative beliefs replied to it. I enjoy discussion, it's how I learn and discover new information. I won't reply to this thread again.

Vegetarian diet is custom among certain groups in asia since centuries. I dont think buddhistic monks had time machines to get themselves modern supplements. As well that before the beginning of the 20th century, it was completely normal for people, to eat far less flesh. (The typical Sunday-celebrity-meal.) I am more into traditional meals, old cooking recipes are full of vegetarian dishes, simply because people cooked vegetarian almost every day of the week.

I was really hoping for this not to be a discussion about/defense. More of a meet and greet. I very much agree with you. Just look up Jainism and Seventh Day adventism. But I worded the start the way I did just to say hi to people, not as "do what are the advantages of being vegan over omnivore/other diet" or anything else about the ethical concerns just because I knew in far too many places just like political discussions it ends up in fights. I lived in one place where people actually made fun of me for being Vegan.

My cholesterol (bad AND good) is far better and also triglycerides - also my blood pressure is down. I have lost weight and can exercise more.
I feel better than I have in 25 years.
Just recently I added being gluten free to the mix, this is a much harder combination but it has lowered my headaches and even helped with meltdowns.
I have yet to have my cholesterol and triglycerides checked and I do still experience some minor headaches, but I switched to a completely-oil-free, plant-based diet including nothing from a mother or with a face about six weeks ago after a cardiologist had declared I needed a CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) and I had discovered the work of Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr.: http://www.heartattackproof.com/qanda.htm
My chronic fatigue disappeared within just a few days of beginning the new diet, and my BP numbers have since come down to a point where I have had to greatly reduce the several BP meds I have been taking for many years. I still have a lot to learn here, but plant-based eating is literally saving my life. At the moment, it looks like I might even be able to avoid mere stenting.
Where some folks argue diets based upon philosophical stances or positions or whatever, the deal for me is that the typical American diet was killing me and cardiologists typically only manage coronary artery disease (a food-born illness) rather than actually treating it by going after its cause.

That is a pretty fast and dramatic change, glad it did help and I hope you can stick to it
you see, I have been Vegan several times before in my life for health reasons, the first time starting when I was 17 and found out I was lactose intolerant and other problems. The thing is it never stuck for me - just being good for me was not enough to keep me into it. Living alone is so unpleasant that I don't do anything just to extend my life. I make changes in my life for other reasons.
I am wondering about the totally oil-free part though, SOME fats are needed for health - and say Avocado oil or other such are actually good for you, Olive (if you get a good one is also good). Also you do need the omega fatty acids which are a type of fat (either Chia seeds or use Flax, you must use powder or oil here as the seeds are indigestible)
