I don't drink caffeinated stuff anymore. I think I have an allergy to it. It makes me fly off the wall. I feel high and then I feel anxiety and depression.

Recent studies may have shown that eCigs produce more formaldehyde than regular cigarettes - somewhere between two and ten times the amount.

I'm still looking for a reliable study on this.

^Mercifully that's not so very relevant to me but I'm pretty sure that's regarding the cheap disposable ones. A friend of mine is fairly obsessed with building these things so I'll try & remember to ask him...

No. Probably the most self-destructive thing you can do to yourself.

I didn't know cigarettes contain formaldehyde. That's scary. I know some people dip their cigarettes and joints in formaldehyde. It's known as getting "wet" on the street. They used to call it "Sherm" because it's supposed to hit you like a Sherman tank. Never tried that. Never will. Is formaldehyde inherent in tobacco? Or is it an additive? American Spirit cigarettes are organically grown and contain no additives.

Yes I do. About two packs a day of full flavor 100's. They are only $3.70 a pack here though so it's not all that bad. However I'm going to quit again soon. My Obamacare will be working Feb 1 so I'll go get some Welbutrin then and quit again.

However, Alex I do have to disagree with you about it being the most self destructive thing. I'd put a couple of illegal drugs up there before cigarettes, and also drinking. However I think it's the most destructive socially acceptable thing to do, although it's not as acceptable in many places as it used to be.

My best friend used to be on crystal meth then when she got off of it she met this douchebag who got her into heroin. Now she's doing that and also back on the meth from time to time. She also smokes cigarettes. I'm just waiting on the phone call telling me she's OD'd cause I know that's coming. She's addicted to the drugs and she's actually quit smoking a few times and it's not that difficult for her. However, she can't go two days without heroin without getting sick. Considering what all is in meth, and all the insane risks of heroin, I would so much rather people smoke cigs than use any of that horrible crap.

My mother smoked for 65 years and died from complications of pneumonia, not the cancer that she always expected to get. That sort of gives me hope that I won't get cancer, but then again I try not to think about it all that much. Worrying about cancer from smoking makes me nervous which makes me smoke more lol.

I'm looking forward to quitting with the Welbutrin again. It's totally painless that way. No being a total b***h, no mood swings, no cravings, etc. Cigs just suddenly taste horrible and I don't enjoy them. I just miss the habit itself, not the smoking. I'm pretty sure I'll post about it when I get the script and when I quit. :-)

The concept of a peace pipe is a VERY different one in relation to that of a cigarette. Not everyone thinks of their "self" as inhabiting only their body.

I agree. Meth is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself. Rots out your teeth, even if you brush them.

Smoking related disease plays a large role in some of the top 10 causes of death in the US. You could say it's perdy destructive!

Like all things, the amount of damage smoking does depends on how much and often you do it. I know that's a given, but I just thought I'd mention it. I feel unlikely to die from complications related to smoking two or three cigarettes a day.

It usually takes a long time to develop health problems from smoking tobacco. My parents smoked for close to 30 years before they quit. When they were young, just about everyone smoked. They quit about 35 years ago and have no smoking related health problems. They're not atypical, either. Otherwise, just about all of the baby boomers would have died 20 or 30 years ago from smoking.

Smoking is certainly dangerous. I just don't think it's the most dangerous habit out there.

Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the United States. Each year, an estimated 443,000 people die prematurely from smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, and another 8.6 million live with a serious illness caused by smoking.Nov 16, 2012-From centers of disease control and prevention

Comparisons are unnecessary when you think about it

I also BMX & ski off cliffs... quite a lot more than I smoke tobacco. I see no reason for criticism regarding dangerous introspective habits & activities. People only own one body each. Plenty of blind-stinking-sober people run around nuking & shelling each other like that's totally justifiable...
