Ultimate Formula 1 winter series round 1 November 17 2012

For a month my dad and I practiced at TQ raceway in Chino, CA setting up our new Radio Control Formula 1 car, the track is indoors and is run on a carpet surface made for radio control cars called ozite. We practiced for many weeks tweaking and tuning the car for the race. Once we got the car as setup to the best of our extent. We then prepared for the big race day.

I would like to take this time to explain the rules of the Ultimate F1 series. Qualifying is 3 Minutes in length, your five fastest laps are added up and the driver with the 5 fastest totals is the top qualifier and gets two points. There are 3 rounds of heads up racing, 15 minutes each. Every driver has to do a pit stop twice by driving in the designated pit area and be given one sticker for each stop and wait 8 seconds before you can drive out. You cannot pit in for the first five minutes or the last lap. If you don’t pit twice your round is disqualified. There are 7 cars per main. The A main is the top 7; the B main is the second fastest 7, C main third fastest and so on. However if you have a faster time in the C main than all the other drivers in the other mains, you win the round. Winning first for a round is 100 points, 99 for second, 98 for third, etc. At the end of the day your three races are added up and whoever has the most points at the end of three heads up rounds of racing is the winner.

Qualifying was very competitive and the separation between 1st and 8th was just two tenths of a second. I missed the A main by mere hundredths of a second. I started on the pole for the B main. I got off to a good start but with two minutes into the race I traction rolled and got bumped down to second I was able to fight my way to first again and was able to place third overall in the first round. In the second round, my car did not traction roll but I did get caught up in the pits with another car and I had to be thrown out and had to go around again for my first pit stop. I won the second B main and placed third overall again. In the last round of the A main, there was no errors and I cruised to victory to win the last B main and place first overall in the third round. I tied on points for the lead but I lost out to first by the two extra points for Top Qualifying position by the winner and former Tamiya National Champion, Dave Berger. I ended up second overall for the day. December 1st 2012 is round two of the Ultimate F1 Winter series

UF1 Round 2, 12-1-12.

During the day of the race, I got tangled up with a slower driver and as I was trying to free myself from his tires, my spur gear got a little messed up and began to grind. This upset my father becuase he felt that he had to take the car aprat all over againg and redo the trasmission. I hoped that the trasmission would hold up and be able to hold up.

Within the first two minutes my transmission went bad and my spur gear was stripped. I did however make the A main and qualified 5th. My dad was angry and he had to redo the trasmission. My teammate who also qualifed behind me helped me and my dad get the transmission fixed up and running again. My suspension was also messed up and that had to be fixed as well. Both were fixed in time for the first A main.

During the first A main I got off to a good start and was able to work my way up to third but got caught in a wreck when a car crashed in front of me. I also tractioned rolled coming into the sweeper. I finished 4th. In the second race I got a little loose coming into the sweeper and and got stuck on the board. I also got into a few wrecks which dropped me to 6th overall in the second round. In the last round, I was able to move my way into the lead. I was in a battle for first and I was being trailed by second but I decided to make a pit stop because the driver in front of me usally waits till the very last minute to take his two pit stops which drops him out of the lead so I could retake it. I only was able to finish 3rd and finish 4th overall for the day.

UF1 Round 3 12-15-12.

For this next round. My dad got a new car from our team-mate Ron Schurr. He helped us dial it in, and it was much faster than our previous car that we ran. We ran it a few practice nights and we set the fastest lap. My dad and I were pumped for next round.

I only ran the car. Through practice a little for race day, then got ready for qualifying.

In qualifying I took home the Top qualifying spot with no problem at all. This is one of the very rarest times that I took TQ by fastest lap. For round one,I win with no problem and felt confedent about the car. Round two I did the same thing. In round 3, it was a little closer but i still won and took the overall race making it my first and only big race victory of 2012.

Thank you for reading my race reports and have a Happy Holidays wherever you are.

Sure! For mod touring car, I am running a Tamiya 417X with sorex 36's for outdoor warm weather and sorex 32's for cool weather for outdoor asphalt. For F1 I am running a TOP rebel chassis with an exotech front end and Shimizu F1 tires for carpet racing. Hope this helps.

sorry, I have only just seen this reply.......I have looked up some photo's and 1986-early nineties.

Even as a toddler I had an RC car. :D

I was pretty good at it and went to a few competitions and I won some trophies with my gun style controller and those cars.

i also had a metal chassis car called a "mardave" - that was great on a BMX track :D

I have some cool pictures and if I had a photobucket account and knew how to use my scanner I would show you. I look pretty happy doing that.

The six year old kid in me wants those cars back and to know what happened to them. They brought me a lot of joy.

UF1 Winter series, round 4, 1-5-13.

A few nights before the race I broke the steering wheel on my radio during pratice. My dad and I got it fixed at KO Propo America. The next day and was able to practice with the radio then got ready for tomorrow's race.

In qualifying. I was able to take the top spot and put myself on the front row for the first round. In the first round I started out good but traction rolled twice coming into the first corner and lost my spot. I tried to get it back, however i tried to make a pass on the leader but i ended up flipping my car after tapping the rear of the leader's car. This sent me back to 4th. At the end of the race I was able to work my way up back to second to make a great pass for the win on the second to last lap of the round. The second round I won easily. The last round I lead the entire race but towards the end i gof caught up in some slower traffic, and on the last lap on the last turn, I got taken out by second place and he waited. But he had crossed the finish line and had to complete one last lap where i was finished. Still, I ended up winning the overall race but my dad filed a protest against the driver who took me out and he will be served a 5 grid spot penalty the next round.
