I don't understand what family or lack of family has to do with you being provided with a care facility. Whatever you're saying along the lines of can't/won't accept offer of care facility because of estranged cousins does not compute. The whole point of being in a care facility is to be looked after in lieu of family/relitives providing anything.

As for my family, by the time I am 58 my parents will either be in their mid 80s or dead and I have no siblings. By then (and years before that) I will be in a care facility and relitives will have nothing to do with that one way or another. The care facility will be looking after me 24/7/365, rather than any relitives.

...I meant that, in my case, I would have no one to to call on or look out for me - or visit me -in a bac situation. I am speaking of my situation and feelings, not yours .

You don't currently have any of that so what's the difference. I just thought you might be better off in a care facility rather than the cycle of repeating misadventures and checking into the ER I keep reading about.

I guess I was raised, even with my I suppose being seen as a little " special " from the beginning-ish, if less so than my brother...I guess especially upper middle-class children, even NTs, of 45-50 years ago or so were raised in a somewhat more independent manner than the " helicopter parenting " manner that - And I'm kind if addressing anyone who reads this now, Ezra, not as much focusing on you - apparently has dominated among " nice " parents in America* in the last three decades or so, in which leaving your children alone under the wrong circumstances can get Child Protective Services or even the law after you.
At 11-12 I walked every day to school, alone. I was, in fact, expected to - And liked doing so - as we lived only a couple of blocks away from the school, and I was not eligible for the bus. I'll say more about this later, perhaps in another forum - If my rough mates in age KraftieKortie, ASPartofme, Auntblabby, and NaturalPlastic, the first two of which hail from the same general corner of the country as I have...........Well, elsewhere maybe .
*-With, in fact, a now-rising " free-range parenting " movement apparently showing the pendulum beginning to swing away from that ?

I understand what you are saying. The helicopter parent thing doesn't apply to me because I really do need to be looked after. My cousin who's my age who lives with us has had plenty of free range freedom. Buy hey I understand where you're coming from wanting your freedom and independence. It's just the way you describe events in your life it doesn't seem to be working out very well for you. Maybe lately things have gotten better for you and I hope that continues rather than the usual calamities and hospital stays.

I was a "free-range" kid and a "latch-key" kid.

My mother worked, and I was alone when I got back home from school.

I was free to go anywhere---especially after age 11, when I wasn't banned from crossing Queens Boulevard any more.

I didn't have to call to tell my parents where I was; obviously, there were no cell phones when I was a kid---and I didn't usually have a dime to make a call from a phone booth.

What's a phone booth?

Phone booths were places where people used to make telephone calls in private. You had to go through a folding door to get in one.

Clark Kent used to change into his Superman outfit in a phone booth.

If he has money to rent a room and is following their rules, why would you be against renting to him?
From what I've seen, you are an NT who came here originally because you wanted to gripe about your autistic brother, and thats reason enough for me to not like you at all. And now you seem to be here just to follow Ass P around like some kind of stalker.

Dont get me wrong, I agree with nearly all of the criticisim of this guy, but if he has money to get a room and is willing to follow their rules I see nothing wrong with this.

Unfortunately, in the US, a business has the right to refuse service to a potential client.

Believe it or not---in most cases---an employer has the right to fire somebody just for the heck of it.

AssP, you say that "getting stuff you want" means a lot to me. I'm assuming you mean non essential consumer goods, which you have no safe or reliable place to store and which you always have short term because they are either thrown out by people who don't respect your property rights because you are homeless and or stolen.
Wouldn't you be better served by simply spending what you have on food, clothing, and above all a safe, warm, and dry place to sleep?

...Rain, I don't think I even make enough money for " a simple place with nothing else, not even a phone ", anyway I am now waiting around to see if the NYS lawyer comes through with money for me to stay here -For lack of a better alternative I'd best stay here now, I think . However, the spending here is untenable, I can't stay here indefinitely -Especially with having to get food myself, it's expensive and with just a microwave and a refrigerator that doesn't't really work I am hardly able to do an Alice Waters-style " go to the farmer's market every day and buy fresh greens that you mix with tofu " thing!
It is really cold in this r<om, even near 8:30 AM , perhaps it is partly the meds I am taking? I might be having an averse reaction to them, I take then, but maybe not in the proper order. I have back/trunk pain .
When I came to Santa Cruz I did have that "recovery shelter "in mind. I once heard a second-hand comment that I was tested and found wanting, but maybe it was just a lack of a bed, more recently I was putting my name in play for the daily list to see if a bed opened up there. This tended to crash on the poor reception of my phone when I tried to call in, when I did get it in I never got it.
If I was in there I presume it'd be free, I could perhaps get healthier food and maybe I'd be in proximity to getting housing programs. However, I guess it would be a smaller shelter bed, a dormitory/barracks style situation and curfew -no staying up all night watching Me TV -and I guess a really early curfew and being, with no bus, stuck up there all weekend. Presumably those among you who feel I should be subjected to more discipline should want this!
I bought an expensive frame backpack yesterday, to carry things around. It is REALLY cold here, only wrapping myself in the brightest much warms me, I'll get some lie-down now and hope the money went through. Otherwise, the hospital, if I can't get into the recovery shelter ?MUSCLE PAIN !
