The Sport/motorsport of remote control auto racing
Hey Dude,
Just saw your thread. I have been involved in RC cars since 1992. I have raced at and belonged to clubs all up the east coast of Australia. I have raced in many classes also.
At the moment, I have the following cars.....
Tamiya TA05 (3Racing converted)
Tamiya F103GT
Tamiya F103LM
Ho Bao GPX4
Kyosho VOneS
Traxxas Revo (2.5 converterd to 3.3 spec)
Traxxas Slash (2wd)
At my local club in Wodonga, we have both on road and off road racing. At the moment, it is summer over here so we race on Saturday nights under lights to escape the heat.
In recent years, I have been club champion at 540 Touring cars, 540 2wd Off Road (I used to have an Associated B4). Last year, our club held endurance events for both on-road and off-road and I won them both. This year i am focusing more on getting a Short Course Truck class going. This is why I bought the Slash.
Awesome Rob!
I too have been a club champion in numerous seasons when i raced at Trackside Raceway in The Northern US Midwest from 1996-2007.
The Traxxas Slash seems to be a very popular truck right now, every where that I go for racing the truck is raced and there is a class for it. I believe you will enjoy it. Where I am racing right now is a indoor asphalt (tarmac as you call it) track in Southern California, USA that also has a indoor off road track as well too. I don't race off road but there are a lot of racers there that do race on it.
There will be more big races coming up soon as 2010 begins, and I plan on doing more race reports when the year starts.
I agree - the Slash is an awesome vehicle. Unfortunately. Short Course Trucks are not as big down under as they are in the US. At Wodonga, we have justed started doing it. So have some of the clubs in Melbourne. I think it will take off when people see how much fun it is.
At Wodonga, I am the only Slash driver. The other SCT's are all Associated SC10's. Nonetheless, I consistently pull second places. They guy who (always) wins in a multiple state champion in 2WD Stock so I have a good excuse.
I run my Slash very close to the Steve Slayden set-up. This works well. However, I do not use the Traxxas radio that came with it. I have installed my trusty JR XS-3 radio. It is quite old but works well for me. I am considering changing to a 2.4gHz system sometime next year. What radio do you use?

I use a KO Propo EX-10 Helios, It's a pretty good radio that I have used for 5 years now. There is an button on top of where you begin to write a message between a globe and a chain and a youtube sign, it is a image of a sun and mountain that say "insert image" when you click on it you will have to enter a internet address of the pictures of your cars if they are not on they internet. Try starting a account at photobucket.com and upload your images and copy the address of your image and paste them using the image button on wrongplanet. If you still have trouble, ask Alex Plank or the computer people on this site if they can help you with that situation.
I have gotten my Photobucket account running and have saved a few of the pictures of my cars there.
This is my Tamiya F103GT with a Dodge Viper body. It is powered by a tamiya Sports Tuned Motor and runs regulation Take Off 27 tires. I painted it Fluro Green to make it easier to see for night racing under lights.
This is my Tamiya TA05 with a Lexus body. This shot was taken on the Landsborough track in Queensland. I was living there for about ten months some time back. I competed in the 540 Touring Cars class.
This is the same TA05 Chassis as featured above but I have fitted it with a Mazda 6 body. This shot was taken at the Wodonga RCCC where I currently race. With this chassis/body combo, I won a club 540 championship, club 540 eduro and placed second in a club 17.5 stock championship.
I am going to do a new body for my Slash soon. The stock body has too much balck and red on it and is very hard to see under lights at night. I am not sure if I will just get a clear Traxxas body and paint it to my liking or if I will get one of the Proline Desert Rat bodies. Time will tell.

Next week is the first round of the West Coast RC Raceways Tuesday Night Point Series Championship. this is a 6 race series that will start on January 5th 2010 and will end on February 9th 2010, I will be competing in the Pro 13.5 touring class. This class uses a Aerodynamically tuned sedan type body with specially made steel belted rubber tires. 13.5, is a electric motor that is equivalent to a V8 engine. The racers in 13.5 pro class will be competing for money, how much the winner will receive will be based on the percentage of entries in the class. I will be going up against one of the best racers in the world and other numerous good racers as well. More details of series and race report to follow.
Hello everyone.
My dad is working on a new car and i have decided to sit out last weeks race and tonight's race so my dad can do some final preparation on the car, I will practice with the new car hopefully on Wednesday after the second round of the Tuesday night series and then I will compete in the third round of the series next week.
What new chassis are you going to run?
My new Desert Rat body for my Slash showed up yesterday. Unfortunately, I will not have time to prep it before racing on Saturday. I will get it done before racing next month and put a pic in here.

All right guys, I have a little change in schedule here.
I will not be running in the Tuesday night racing series for a couple of reasons.
1. The series that I was supposed to compete in is six races long and you have two throwouts however since i have missed 3 i am out of the running for the championship.
2. I go to college part time on Tuesdays and I have a busy school schedule and i really don't have much time to squeeze in for racing on that day.
I will however be running on Saturdays at west coast raceway and i still will be going up against some of the same good racers that race on Tuesday night. I did race this last Saturday in the Expert 13.5 Touring class, I qualified 5th out of 6 racers and ended up 3rd on the podium.
Last night I decided to compete in the West Coast Tuesday Night race series, even thought i was out of the race for the point series i still wanted to race because i wanted to sharpen my racing skills and race some good competition. I also have found some way to work around school as well too. I competed in the Expert 13.5 Touring car class, these cars go up to a speed of 45 MPH down the backstrech.
There were some very good racers I went up against. One of them was Tony Neisinger. Neisinger, was one of the remote control auto racers the United States has ever had, he won multiple national and world championships in the mid 1980's to early 1990's. He pitted right across from us last night and was quite exciting to be in his presence.
The first qualifier started out a little rough for me. I had a "tweak" problem on the first few laps
Tweak is where you car will want to oversteer turning one way and understeer turning the other. My car was very loose turning right on the first two laps and i looped it around coming onto the backstretch on the second lap, however i manged to get the car to work properly, other racers were making consistent mistakes by rolling their car over and I managed to work my way up from last place to 2nd. The second qualifier was much better, my dad did an adjustment on the car made the easier to drive turning right and i was able to drive consistent and clean throughout the race. I end up qualifying second still, but with a much better overall time. The A main final was a bit rough though, at the heads up start, I got taken out by the 3rd place racer behind me which sent me back all the way to last place, on the 4th lap I had a chance to pass 6th place which rolled his car in front of me but i rolled it over as well while trying to get the inside line on him. I was able to work my way up to 4th place a the end of the race, I was disappointed that I could of finished much better in the main final but I was happy that i qualified well that night and I plan to improve my lap times at west coast raceway and working with my dad to improve my setup and handling. I was able to finish a half a lap behind Mr Neisinger and outqualified him as well.
I decided to resurrect my old Tamiya/3Racing TA05 for racing at our local club. It badly needed a new body so I put together the body as seen in the photo below.
As it is summer in Australia, we are racing on Saturday nights to avoid the heat in the middle of the day (which can be 40 degrees C and above). I used fluro colours on the body to make it more visible under lights.
Not having raced tourers for a while, I decided to enter into the 540 Touring Cars class. The format consisted of two heats and three finals. I won all of the above by about two laps each. I think next up, I will enter the brushless stock class. I am considering getting a Tekin RS brushless system as these seem to be very popular over here.
I am also in the process of doing a new body for my Slash. I will put a photo of that up here when I am finished.

I currently have a Tekin RS pro, it's not an RS but it probably the best speed control you can buy right now. You won't be disappointed. The RS is awesome. I too had a 3 racing TA05 and it was a good car, i only ran it on carpet though. I also have two newer bodies painted up as well that i tested last night at west coast raceway.
Can't wait to see the new Slash.
My first big race of the year and decade is coming up. On February 28th, I will be competing in the Aliso Veijo Tamiya Championship Series regional race at Tamiya America raceway. This was the same track that I won the Tamiya North American Finals and earned my trip to Japan in August last year. I will be competing in the "Mini" class. This is the cheapest racing class in all of the TCS. These cars are based off of Mini Coopers, Mazda Miata's, and other numerous turbo charged Japanese and European compact cars, the cars chassis are made out of ABS molded plastic, and use oil filled, spring shocks. They use a cheap sliver electric motor that usually comes with the car that you build that is slow compared to the faster cars in the other classes. They are ether Front Wheel Drive or Rear Wheel Drive, there are no 4WD versions. This year there will be a a strict RPM limit on all motors in the Mini class, there will be two Dynometor tests on all these motors. One will be a test where the motor is run at 5 Volts, and the motor must not exceed 12,500 RPM and 1.2 amps, then a second test will be run on the motor at 7.2 volts and the motor must not exceed 18,000 RPM and 1.2 amps.

Hi guys! I just finished my Tamiya Championship Series race, the race was held outside and the race was going on until night fall and i was racing in huge darkness with a few full size car and truck lights illuminating the track, I came 5th out of 40 racers by driving a very loose car in the A main. The race report will be coming up.
