One of my passions is surfing. I live in FL, therefore we don't get many swells during the summer unless there is a hurricane off the coast. It seems like everyday I check the swell forecast hahah. I just got a new board and I want to try it out soo bad. Does anyone else surf? 8)

Nice how big are the on avg in July/August. In FL there are no waves in July/ August unless a hurricane is off the atlantic coast. Your not a kook man everyone has to start out. Just respect the locals.

it really depends hey. 2007 was the best winter in at least 30 years. 2008 was one of the longest flat spells i've ever experienced.... although i got one of those 'days of the year' early on in the season (clean 6ft). winds are usually much more favourable during winter (offshore all day is possible). a lot of people head to bali during winter as it is their season there, and much more consistent (and tropically warm... and close for aussies)

the most consistent season is typically autumn... summer can also produce the goods if you get a cyclone off the coast... cyclones near fiji tend to send out long period groundswell.

but yeh, from what i've heard the east coast would be more consistent than FL... especially south of byron bay as you are then able to access southern ocean groundswell goodness.
