I usually go one a week but problems with costs are forcing me to go less often at the moment. Motivation is not really a problem for me as I actually enjoy it and I don't really see it as a chore.

The last time I had any health club membership was way back in the Jack LaLanne European Spa days. It seemed everytime I went I always ended up hanging out in the pool or the hot tub, and rarely did I use any of their weight equipment (unless there was some "eye candy" working out). They did have a pretty cool "inhalation room", however, that would always be my last stop before I left for the nite. As far as I remember, I don't think I ever took any of the aerobic classes they offered (which was the big draw back in the 1980s).

Never been to a gym. Why would you go to a place filled with sweaty, arrogant humans, when weight benches and dumbbells are cheap? Even a decent treadmill is no more expensive than a gym membership. Crunches are free. You can get fairly ripped at home. There's nothing magic about a gym. Just people. Smelly, obnoxious, swaggering, thickheaded people.

I don't go to the gym at all, but not for the same reasons as Willard.

I've tried it in the past, but I feel very self-conscious, and physically quite uncomfortable (with the exercise as well as the environment). Also... it's kind of unstimulating.

I've been spotty but since I turned 30 recently, I've been doing 6 days a week. I'm past the part where I don't want to go and I feel fantastic. I want to be super healthy now that I'm getting old. :( lol

I don't go to the gym now. Used to go once or twice a week a few years ago, and when I was at my former ward, I occasionally went exercising at the mini gym (some fitness machines in a room). I consider going again.

That's my point of view. Add a balance ball ($10-$20) and a few exercise DVDs and what more do you need? I hate perspiring in front of others.

I didn't like gym class in school, so I doubt I'd like it as an adult.

I go once a day (weekdays.) Do weights whenever I am recovered from the last session (usually once every 3-4 days.) Whenever I am not doing weights I do cardio on a ellipsis or a egometer. I can't really run because I have bad nees and ankles (cartlige and tendong problems) so I try and restrict my running to basketball training and games. (I tell ya, I know I'll regret it when I get older.)

Apart from that I just enjoy getting up at 530 when there is no one else around. Usually only one or two people in the weights room. And on days when I am in the cardio area most of the people that would do that are in spin classes anyway so I can just stick in my headphones and tune everyone else out.

I go to a gym several times a week that's open 24 hours. It's nice because I can sometimes go at a later time when there aren't many people around if I want.

2-3 times a week at work. I actually enjoy working out.

depends on the time of year. During the summer i don't go at all because i spend all my free time rowing (unless i get sick like this summer :() This fall I'd like to go 5 times a week, 3 cardio workouts and two weight workouts, to supplement my 7 on the water workouts (once a day, two on saturday, sunday off). Once the fall rowing season is done I plan on doing 8 cardio workouts (5 rowing specific and 3 triathlon workouts) and 2 weight workouts during the weekdays and I want to start climbing on the weekends. The winter months will probably be a little more lax because I'll be taking a full course load as opposed to the fall where i only take 3 courses because of rowing.

Since I'm on the varsity rowing team I have access to a smaller, more private weight room. There aren't many machines (leg press, leg extension and leg curls, that's it), the equipment isn't as new or shiny as the public gym but it's got a squat rack, a bench press, dumbbells, and there's no one stopping you from doing cleans and other weightlifting exercises. The other advantage is that it kind of looks like a dungeon and not many people use it so it's less distracting. My biggest beef with the public gym, and any popular gym for that matter, is that you've got to wait for equipment, which makes your workout longer and less intense. The absolute worst time of the year to go to the gym is from January till the end of Feb because you've got all the people who made a new year's resolution to go to the gym so you end up with a bunch of people who don't know proper gym etiquette, who socialize and clog up the equipment, and 90% of them are gone after 2 months. /rant

At present usually 3 days a week, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and I like to do the group classes because I like that much better than training on my own.

I'm opposite to you here. I prefer working out on my own, preferably with friend. That is, I like to play separately while together. I only do classes for specific purposes: yoga until I hurt my back and an aerobics class on steroids to boost my regular workouts.

I had a 24-Hour Fitness membership when I was still in CA, and now a Planet Fitness membership in CT. I always tried to go to the gyms that were open 24 hours, that way I could go in the middle of the night when the place was deserted and work out in peace. 8) When it's not summer (I don't like the heat) I go 5-6 days a week, but during the summer that drops to maybe twice a week, if even that. I'm getting pudgy.

"Anytime Fitness" is another large chain that is open 24-hours. That's the one I go to. It doesn't even have any employees there at night. Is 24-Hour Fitness like that?

No, they still had 1 employee on premises at all times. The guy was usually just sitting at the front counter checking IDs when you come in, but otherwise looked very bored or just watched TV while sitting on one of the exercise bikes.
