Never done one, but feel one needed for autistic people, as many like myself have huge problems sleeping, it doesn't matter what I do, what mood I am in, I have nights I hardly sleep at all... never seem to need as much sleep as the average NT for some reason....

Just found this sleep research page, will read about some more:

I did a sleep study 15 years ago and got a c-pap machine. It revolutionized my life. I heartily recommend it for anyone that snores or has problems being groggy or grouchy during the day.

I've had two sleep studies and found I have severe sleep apnea. The Cpap isn't working for me, due to sensory issues with the mask, AS related. I take it off in the middle of the night and don't remember doing it.. six weeks.. five masks!

So, I'm now considering surgery. I hope it helps so I can reap the benefits of a good night's sleep for the first time in my life, as most cpap users have done.

As far as sleeping during the study, see if you can take a mild sedative. I took 2 klonopin before both of mine.

I would like to take a sleep study to find out why I always seem to wake up two to three hours after falling into a deep sleep then taking another two to three hours to get back to sleep again. The only thing is that I'm not sure how well I would fall asleep with all the electrodes taped to my head and the tubes in the nose. I've been in the hospital before hooked up to all sorts of things (post-op), but I was also given IV sedatives, so falling asleep was not an issue then.

I'm having one, but because my sleep is so disturbed I get to do it at home with the equipment. Good luck to the OP and everyone else here.

I'd like to do one but I'm in Eastern Europe so I have no idea where to look.

I can make myself put up with anything, even the dentist. I make myself wear the mask and hear the white noise and have learned to sleep that way, rather than not wearing the mask and not sleeping. Being forced to endure as part of my upbringing has left me with some talent in endurance. Having a raging allergy to poison oak or ivy has also taught me endurance as it is two weeks of hell with or without cortisone injections. It's like being in labor when giving birth, you realize you are in it for the duration, might as well put my obstinance to work for the greater good.

of course, this does not work on everything. . .

I've had 2 of them.
Problem was that when got there in evening nurses, techs, whatever the right word is wouldn't believe that I did what I was supposed to and not had any caffeine for a specified time before the study.

Umm, people, just the stress of driving there does that to me.

That kind of reduced effectiveness of the study.

I didn't have a sleep study but I took part in medical trials for people with insomnia. either didn't work on me or I was one of the unlucky ones how were given placebos. or the control group, I dunno.

Never been a sleep study but for most of my life until my 30's I had severe nightly insomnia. (I'm talking about the kind of insomnia that makes it impossible to go to sleep without wasting hours in bed, followed by ineffectual, non-restful sleep.)

Sometimes a health condition can cause insomnia as a side effect. I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and when they got the dosage for my medicine right, the insomnia mostly went away. When I have a bad night, I find 1/4 of a melatonin tablet does the trick.

However, even after all that, I know the way I sleep is not normal. If I live the life of a night person and go to bed no earlier than 2AM (or if I sleep during the day) I go to sleep perfectly and easily.

However, if I try to go to bed any sooner (no matter how I organize my schedule or what I do before bed) I end up staring at the ceiling for hours, getting low quality sleep, then feeling tired all day.

Now that I work at night and don't do the 9-5PM-ish thing I'm fine. I hope I never have to switch back to that schedule, though.

i just did a sleep study about two weeks ago but i am still waiting to see the neurologist again to get the results.

the tech said i did not have apnea but stopped short with that and said the doc would have to discuss the rest of the results with me.

i cannot get to sleep easily and when i do i wake up every 2 or 3 hours and when i have to get up in the morning i feel like crap and want to sleep another 3 or 4 hours which i do on the weekends.

i just started taking seroquel, 50 mg. it helps me get to sleep but i still wake up every 2 or 3 hours and now it is really hard to get out of bed in the morning. if i don't have to go to work, i stay in bed slightly awake another 3 or 4 hours feeling groggy. and now, if i don't take the seroquel i stay awake the entire night and get no sleep at all.

for example, i ran a USATF certified half marathon today. the run was scheduled to start at 7AM and the drive was 40 minutes to get there so i had to get up at 5AM and be in good mental and physical preparedness to run 13 miles. so i decided not to take the seroquel the night before knowing if i did i may not be able to get up at all at 5AM. what happened? not one bit of sleep.

i ran the half marathon this morning having had no sleep at all the previous night. i still finished about 10 minutes faster than my training runs and well under the maximum time allowed (3 hours). however, in my age group i was 92 of 97 runners - but still ahead of 5 others in my age bracket.

I had one, I too just got really distressed from having to lie there and wait for sleep.
And all the results told me is that I had depression, and can't reach the deep sleep, or something.
My sleep is so screwed... I fixed it today, diurnal, only to become insanely exhausted at lunchtime and lie down and fell alseep 6 more hours.
Oh well it's not like I desire to go outside anymore... Who needs the light.
