Chronic Nightmeres and Insomina-Need Help!! !

I am an Aspie with complications of anxiety and depression. I have been struggling with chronic nightmeres and insomina, and I am on medications, I am in therapy, I am taking an "Emotional Regulation" cource, etc. and nothing seems to be making these nightmeres and insomia go away. Most of the dreams are about things which happened in my past-and those are the most shary. What do you think is going on? What do you recommend? I am feeling discouraged. Thanks very much!

I've never had recurring dreams or nightmares, so I'm no expert... but how's your life outside of bed?

In my experience, nightmares can be caused by a focus or worry on a lot of negative fear and crap and whatever else (sounds like you've been through some trauma) so the only way to make your nightmares go away is to stop thinking about them.

But that's far easier said than done. But I think the best way to reduce nightmares is to (try) to come to peace with your problems, or as much as you can. Failing that, look at your life and find something positive to work on, and your sub conscious should pick up the rest of the tab.

Have you tried looking at a dream dictionary? They aren't necessarily accurate, but I like to look up my dreams online to see what the interpretation is. Even if your nightmares happened in real life, they still might be trying to tell you something.

Also, for a practical answer; soft music and a clean bedroom may help you to get a good night's sleep. Classical music is nice, but make sure it is calm all the way through or you'll find yourself suddenly awakened by the sound of loud percussion instruments..... 8O

Thank-you for your helpful suggestions and sage advice-my life outside the bed has been difficult, but better than my life before. I am stuggling with a lot of worry and negative fear in my life right now-true.

I am beginning to work with my therapist and spiritual director on reviewing my tramatic experiences in a systematic manor, it hasn't helped that I have not gotten a diagnosis or any wants to diagnose me with PTSD. But, my therapist is open to talking about my traumas-which is good.

I think you are right. Particularly comming to pierce with my situation.

Dear FaithHopeChease,

I will try your suggestion of a dream dictionary, a clean room and a relaxation tape I usually listen to before bed, when I am at my apartment. I didn't have the relaxation tape last night at my parrent's place, and that is when I had another horrible nightmere. Thanks very much for your suggestions.
