Shorin-ryu? I'm thinking about taking that at uni. Would you recommend it?
Well I've only had experience with that, shotokan, and ishin-ryu (forgive my possibly butchered spellings) and I believe that shorin-ryu is the most real-world applicable. The moves in shorin-ryu seem to feel much more powerful with less flare and more business. If you have the time and energy to dedicate to it then yes I do indeed recommend it. Make sure you find a high-quality dojo/sensei so you don't waste your time.
Most people will spend 3 years or more getting their black belt and it really gets rewarding around the brown belt level. gl man
