I try and I exercise and diet and exercise and diet and diet, and exercise, and I'm not fat exactly but I've never achieved a thin body. I know I have a genetic component or some imbalance, but the ******* doctors can't find anything wrong. I just living this puritanical life, and I've never met anyone with the same problem. Everyone else can just live their lives, but I have to spend my life worrying about my waistline.

Oh well. Go ahead, say it's me, some I'm doing wrong. EVERYONE ELSE DOES.

Its easier for really fat people to lose weight than sort of fat people like us.

Sounds like you have an emotional obesity problem. You should read the Gabriel Method, thats worked for thousands when diets wouldn't.

Have you tried cutting out gluten? ( in wheat, rye, and barley, and present in a lot of packet and fast foods ) .

As many as 10-25% of the population are gluten intolerant, and one of the most common "side effects", ( along with depression, skin complaints, various neuropathies ), is obesity/overweight.

The old idea that you would inevitably have gastro-intestinal symptoms if you are gluten-intolerant is just that, old.

Whenever I cut it out, ( and I have been gf for 26 months this time; full positive effects hit at around six months when gluten leaves liver ) , I have lost a lot of weight, very fast. :)

PS. 1% of the pop have classic celiac disease but they tend to be thin, whereas gluten intolerance, which affects far far more people, ( from 10% of the pop ), tends to cause weight gain.

.

From my experiences it is not really even that. When you exercise you body is gonna need more fuel than usual, so of course your gonna still eat, but you have to replace the foods that arent good for ya with stuff that is. Ill give ya a list of what I usually eat anymore since I have been losing weight. (Down to a 30 and still losing. was at a 36 at around christmas. Havent necessarily lost lbs, lost fat, but replacing it with lean muscle)

Breakfast
Hard boiled egg x 1
Bowl of whole wheat bran with a sliced up banana in it
If I am still hungry, drink a glass of water. Wait 10-20 minutes, then if still hungry have another banana or apple or something.

Between breakfast and lunch I would then work out.

Right after workout (this usually doubles as my lunch as well)
Smoked turkey breast sandwich (1 slice smoked turkey, 1 slice cooper cheese, 2-3 slices of tomato, a little bit of spicy brown mustard to add flavor. All of this on 2 slices of whole wheat/multigrain bread.) I also think the sandwich tastes awesome to the point that even the heavy on team fortress 2 would appreciate it
I also have a fruit of some kind with the sandwich

Dinner
Usually a pasta of some kind with meat and veggies
another serving of fruit

(The only one of the meals that arent set in stone is dinner, it all depends on what the rest of my family wants to eat. If fried stuff is made, or greasy stuff, I go light on it.)

Notes about eating habits
-drink plenty of water. Sometimes you will feel hungry, but that is just because you are dehydrated. Dont guzzle it down all at once, instead sip it throughout the day.
-eat a bit slower (even I have trouble with this), you will usually end up eating less.
-big meal should be your breakfast. same as above, you will eat less throughout the day
-make sure you get enough protein, especially when working out. Helps generate muscle mass and maintains the muscle tissue you already have. More muscle mass, the more your metabolism improves. (I havent been focusing on muscle mass yet anyways, I still have been trying to slim down to where I want first, get rid of the rest of my gut and moobs.)
-Cut out soft drinks, it has helped me alot

Exercise

You have to make sure you are doing the right exercises. From my experiences, cardio burns the most calories. For my cardio I play DDR (finally up to standard/heavy, approx 2 hours a day, not including the loading between songs or bathroom/drink breaks)

Id stress the cardio every day part. As for the other stuff, Ive begun weight-training again as well, starting out 1x-2x a week, each day focusing on a different area (upper body one day, lower the next). My goal is 3x a week, each day different stuff, but divided tween legs/hips/thighs on day, abdominal the next, chest and arms the third day. FYI, I use my own personal gym set. Also in regards to weight training, for toning muscles go low resistance, high repititions per set. Building muscle mass, go heavier resistance low reps per set.

Other then cardio, one thing you should definately do daily is stretch, especially before exercising in any form. I does help. Usually stretch for at least 15 minutes, well thats what I do anyways.

Ill just repeat my main point though, more exercise and eating less isn't truly healthy for ya. You do have to exercise more, but you have to eat the right stuff, and make sure you eat enough, or else your body goes into starvation mode. Then when you do eat while in starvation mode, what you do eat is alot more likely to get stared as fat. You will also feel more fatigued and whatnot as well.

I have always been skinny but what fat is on my body has always accumulated on my stomach and chest so Ive always had a gut and man boobs until recently i discovered that cutting soda and sweet tea almost entirely out of my diet and doing push ups and crunches obsessively has gotten rid of my tits and given me a masculine looking chest finally. What you can try is checking everything you drink for something called high fructose corn syrup as it has basically become the only form of sugar used in pre prepared drinks anymore and they use WAY too much of it. Then to make working out less boring just do what i did. When you're watching TV every time commercials come on do as many crunches, sit ups, or push ups as you can till the show starts again.

In response to the OP:
I'm assuming you're a woman, since you've looked to doctors to find out why you can't lose weight.

The simple answer is, some of us will NEVER be super thin. No matter what we do. You and I are evidently 2 such women. I am 5'5", and at my thinnest and most fit, I will weigh right around 140 lbs. I'll look great. BUT I will not look like a size 2.

When I really watch what I eat, and I exercise, and I'm active, and I'm happy, I weigh right around 140. When I don't watch my diet, and am less active (like in the winter), I weight right around 150.

The only time since age 14 that I've gone below 130 lbs was when I had mono...no fun! Not worth it! The only way I can get below 138 now is if I have food poisoning...again...not worth it! And the weight comes right back up as soon as I'm healthy and no longer dehydrated.

I have a theory about all of this. I believe we're better suited, evolutionarily, for stressful times. A chick who's a size 2 isn't going to have a CHANCE when real hardship hits...whereas we have a body that is suited to adjust metabolism and save for the leaner times. Hopefully we'll never need this adaptation, but I'm sure it took millions of years to develop. We should be grateful. :)

To summarize, try to focus on your HEALTH, not your waist/weight. You will be happier.

Seriously, do your doctors consider that you are overweight or is this a personal perception.

I presume they have done all the usual test thyroid etc. ?

If you are overweight and the Drs cannot find a pathological cause then realistically your only hope is to find an environmental one (if it some peculiar genetic issue your stuck with it)

Have you tried a diet diary, if not try this for a couple of weeks, although it is a pain in the butt a diet diary will give you or your dietician the ability to objectively analyse what you are consuming. With a diet diary write down everything that you consume, food, water, soft drink, sugar EVERYTHING. Do this for at least a week, two is better, also time of day is also important.

Hopefully you will find that your diet is not as good as you think it is and then you will be able to fix it. Just having a couple of biscuits a day can make a huge difference

Check this link out, http://www.alfitness.com.au/food-calorie-counter.asp?id=4680&sWord=chocolate&page= btw a tim tam is a popular small chocolate biscuit.

Even the temperature of your home can make a difference, slightly cooler and you will need to generate heat, especially when in bed, this of course uses up Kj

maybe you are an endomorph(prone to fat) or possible an endomeso(prone to fat and muscle) Try searching around online about those body types and diets to go with those body types, to see if you have that body type and how to diet for your specific body type. No one ever talks about body types much at the doctors or in the media. The ones ones you hear talk about body types the most are, who, no other than body builders. You said you exercised. Have you tried compound lifts(bench press, military press, deadlift, squat)? This will help you become more muscular and loose fat. Maybe you can never be skinny, but you could always decide to become muscular.

well, ecto-meso OR meso-ecto here. Really easy to lose weight, but I dont really care for developing the hulking muscle appearance. Id rather just be my tall, thin ordinary self.

I know how you feel i have the same problem. I have however discovered a miracle. His name is Paul McKenna. he has 4 simple rules
1. When your hungry EAT
2. Eat what you WANT
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. When you ar full up STOP eating

Be aware of how your tummy feels. Are you really hungry or just trying to change the way you feel.
Most of us are emotinal eaters we eat because we are bored, lonely, or upset.

Lok him up ands the magic work.

well, you dont need huge muscles to be strong either. I prefer the speed. But as has been said, to each his own. Wish you luck on your goal then.

and yeah, my frame would work with the huge hulking muscles, but in my mind it wouldnt please myself aesthetically.
