I think Squash players should be paid atleast as much as Tennis players. It's unfortunate the audience is so small. comparatively.

Furthermore with those goggles, the court with the glass wall, lightning fast reflexes and the quintessential face-off between two individuals, it seems to me like Squash could be compared to rather futuristic sports as seen in the likes of Tron.

For those that aren't sure what Squash is:

What are your opinions? And why do you think Tennis has been more popular? (apart from the grunts of Maria Sharapova, which I find annoying rather than attractive)

I played squash for my school a few times, mainly because hardly anyone else in the school bothered to play the game.
I found it easier than tennis in some ways. For example, in squash it's easier to serve, it's easier to hit a backhand, and you can whack the ball as hard as you like without having to worry about putting topspin on it. But I always found that if I ever let the ball hit the back wall, I could never get it back into play, whereas the pros manage to do so with ease.

As for why tennis has been more popular (at least as a spectator sport), I have some suggestions. (1) it is easier to see the ball when you're watching a game of tennis, (2) because of the shape a squash court, you cannot fit as many spectators into a squash arena as you can fit into a tennis arena, and (3) (probably less importantly) tennis players play on a variety of different surfaces throughout the season, which is an aspect that squash lacks.

You mention that squash is faster than tennis. Perhaps faster games can actually be less appealing to spectators. Badminton and table tennis are faster even than squash (I think), and yet they are less popular than tennis.
Personally, I prefer to watch tennis, followed by badminton, then table tennis, then squash. Even though I played squash for a bit, I have no idea what to look for in a good game or a good player.
However, I would say it's a shame for Jahangir Khan that squash is not better known, otherwise (given his record) he'd be regarded as one of the greatest sportsmen in history!

As for Maria Sharapova, I also find her grunts annoying, but I still think she's nice to look at. I'm convinced she was fed growth hormone as a teenager though. (Seriously. I mean, Barcelona gave growth hormone to the soccer player Lionel Messi, so why shouldn't tennis players try it.)

Tennis looks better than squash and can be played outdoors. People like sports outdoors. And squash is more predictable, what means boring.

I played both. I find squash easier, because it has stabile background  I mean the wall. My sight isn't good. Squash is easier to automatise myself. 1-2-3-hit-1-2-3-hit-1-2-3-hit-1-2-3...
Sadly, people don't want to play with me, because I'm strong and I usually hit the ball. And I don't talk. I do what I have to do. They prefer to talk, laugh and sometimes hit the ball, bend more often (next social situation, I guess).

I love every sport with racket - tennis, table tennis, badminton and squash.
