I was curious how many aspies like to work out at the gym or play sports or even just run, walk, swim or roller blade on a regular basis.

Please list the things you do for fitness and your reasons for doing them. If you don't, please state your reason why not.

I'll go first.

I like to walk and roller blade. I would like to get back into swimming which I haven't done in a long time. I used to work out at the gym pretty regularly, but I stopped about two years ago. I plan to start again soon.

I do the roller blading and walking to keep my weight down and I used the weight equipment at the gym to bulk up a little.

Don't. I told myself last week I was going back to weightlifting. This week I told myself I didn't feel like doing anything besides sleeping and killing time on the internet :(

If it's nice out, I walk for about 30 minutes. Plus I work so I am on my feet for a few hours.

I told myself I was going to start working out again every "last week" for the past year

FINALLY started going to the gym again this week. I've been 3 times in the last 5 days, I've been going for like an hour and a half each time. When I go I shoot hoops, run/walk on the treadmill and do a little weight lifting.

2 of the 3 times were after 10+ hour work days and today I actually made it despite being hung over, I'd say my motivation (at least by my admittedly low standards) is off the charts at least for the time being.

That was me except I'm a few weeks on from this state and have actually got back in there. I always feel good after the gym. The one I go to if I go early in the morning I am the only one there and can play any music it's really nice and peaceful without other people.

Sorry, I polled incorrectly. I missed the fact that it was asking hours per week, not per day. So my 1-2 answer should be changed to 11-15.

Do 20 mins of ab crunches; 20-30 mins of bench presses and/or dumbbell curls; walk/run on the treadmill 1.5 - 2 miles per evening. Prefer these things because I can do them all indoors, rain or shine and not have to interact with other sweaty people or be stared at by bored strangers.

Why? 'Cause I don't want to look like a tubby slob. Slobs may occasionally get laid, but only by other slobs. :eew:

So are you guys going to public gyms, your own private gym, or a college gym?

I used to go to a college gym, then use my own private equipment, but I am thinking of going to a public gym just because they have better stuff.

I got a Bowflex off Craig's List for a couple hundred dollars two years ago. Cheaper than a gym, no transportation time, don't have to deal with other people while working out--perfect.

I actually have only been in "public" gyms to pick up job applications. I have a feeling I wouldn't get along well in a public gym environment because when I lift I lift. I don't want to talk, deal with fitnesss know it alls, sissy people who freak out when I shake (it's normal for me to shake), etc.

i can't run or swim anymore [arthritis] but i can still ride a bike on the logging roads for an hour or so, and when i can't do that, i use a manual treadmill for 45 minutes, which makes me sweat as much as an hour of bike riding offroad. and i have re-adopted the basic training push-up regimen, of doing pushups every time i get cold, so i am back up to doing 50 now.

I'm disappointed that more people didn't take the poll in this thread.

so far, it's 16 poll participants to 11 posters. that seems about on par, IMHO. i've had many polls which did far worse than that. :(

Not to mention fitness isn't exactly the most popular section on here.

Yes, I should have changed the title to "How many pushups in between sex on average?"
That would get everyone's attention.

Still, I know there are several aspies here that work out regularly and haven't responded. I'm disappointed because some of them could probably teach us a few things.

you could start a new poll asking WPers if they work-out to better prepare themselves for the rigors of sexual intercourse. or if good general fitness and muscle tone enhances the sex experience. just a thought.

About 3 hours, 3-4 times a week.

At least 9 hours of that is weightlifting, but I do other stuff like cycle sports.
