Since having every day anxiety, sadness, and depression, I wonder when this little heart of mine is gonna grow old and die. I would much rather have my heart in my hands than sinking to the floor... and I know there needs to be some adjustments in life in order to get rid of some of the above issues.. but for now I do what I can, and what I feel the need to consume should rely heavily on heart health. I ask any of you for advice on consumables (foods, liquids, spices, and so on) that are good or even great for the heart.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a hard time. Garlic is good for the heart and it's very tasty.

Hi thanks for the response. I've read a lot about garlic before. I have reviewed many sites where it says that if you cook garlic it will overheat and kill the "hearty" components of garlic, whilst raw is great for you. Unfortunately any time I ever try raw garlic I instantly throw up, literally.

You can take garlic in pill form. It's called Garlique.

Fish oil is really good for your heart. You can take it in pill form, and barely taste it. Or you can eat canned herring or sardines on toast, which tastes pretty good if you put a little bit of salt on it. Canned fish is particularly popular in Scandinavians and Eastern European cuisines. It might give you bad breath, so if you eat it for breakfast or before going out, brush your teeth afterwards.

Hemp seed is supposed to be good (I haven't done much research into it). Turmeric can be helpful too as, along with other things, it is supposed to help poor circulation.

Eating less meat is supposed to be good for the heart and there are many meat substitutes that taste very similar to meat if you feel that it's not really a meal without meat. Also, eating raw nuts can give you healthier oils as your body needs oil but too much meat (also contains oil) is not good for a body but bear in mind that all things in moderation.

Not ironically a lot of the best things for your heart - ie. vitamins, good nutrition, active lifestyle, are also great for depression and anxiety.

I hear a glass of red wine per day is good.

Thanks. I had some in the cupboard that I forgot about. I'm really bad at taking supplements that are in pill form but I just started taking them last night. They do give me garlic breath, but at least I know it's legit right. Also, thanks Aspie1. I just started taking them recently. All of these supplements taken as directed give me bad breath lol.. I suppose that's what it takes if ya can't eat a bunch of garlic and fish.

I like Dr. Davis's blog. He is a cardiologist that gives tips on foods and supplements that help his patients. It's not so much a food, but sunshine or vitamin D3 from a supplement is one of the better items he has found to help with heart health.

His blog is at:

http://www.heartscanblog.org/

An article he wrote about vitamin D3

"Getting vitamin D right"
http://www.heartscanblog.org/2010/01/ge ... right.html

Snippet from the article:

Quote:
Vitamin D is, without a doubt, the most incredible "vitamin"/prohormone/neurosteroid I have ever encountered. Frankly, I don't know how we got anything accomplished in health pre-D.

Unfortunately, people I meet rarely take their vitamin D in a way that accomplishes full restoration of vitamin D blood levels. It really isn't that tough.

Here's a list of common tripping points with vitamin D:
