Hi all, I'm a recreational runner and recently I have had a relatively long period of inactivity due to illness and poor mental health. I am concerned because although I haven't gained substantial weight, I seem to have gained weight in my upper thighs. Although this is not a substantial amount, I feel this can be really annoying for running as I am worried my thighs will rub against each other while I run (I have inwardly turned knees, so my thighs move much closer together than is normal). I am wondering if anyone could recommend any good upper thigh toning exercises to help reduce the excess fat.

Anything that gets you out of breathe will help you lose weight. I'd recommend skipping, swimming or step ups (at the bottom of your stairs)

I do do physical exercise/activities, I'm just looking more specifically at toning exercises for the upper thigh to give my body better shape for running. I'm not really looking to lose weight in general.

Running up and down bleachers is a great thigh work-out.

Or if you want to do weighlifting, I'd do leg curls and leg extensions.

Hope this helps.
