I went down to the local outfitters today and demoed a fishing kayak.

I spent about 2hrs paddling around the city lake.... Man, was it fun! :D

As I trolled along the shoreline I flushed a great heron. It scared the crap outta me as it croaked, squawked and flapped away. There were a bunch of them wading a fishing in a shallow cove. It was pretty cool to watch--like wild kingdom in the flesh...

Anyway, as of right now, I have a blister on the side of my left thumb from paddling as well as new kayak! :P

If the weather holds, I'm gonna paddle/fish some coves tomorrow...

So, anybody else around here kayaking the wrong planet?

Here's a vid of the one I bought....

That is a nice-looking kayak.

I lived in Manly, Australia, for 6 months, and my happiest memories are of paddling around the harbour in a rented kayak.

Now I live in the UK, and the weather has put me off doing it. Your post made me remember my past experiences and smile, may be I should give it a try.

Thank you for some motivation, and good luck with your kayaking.

^^^ Yeah, you should totally do it!

Paddling is a great sport for aspies because you can be as social or as solitary as you like...

I've been so frustrated this summer looking for an outdoor activity... I tried to get back into biking but my knees and hips just won't let me. Kayaking is a great solution. I get a good workout (the Coosa is very stable, but it's slow and harder to paddle), and I get to enjoy even more remote nature (on a bike I'd be restricted to trails, but the kayak will take me places few people see).

Anyway, I'm off to checkout a spot from the guidebook the outfitters gave me. With any luck, I'll be posting some pics/video of pretty country if not pretty fish...the truth is, I like the paddling as much as the fishing.

Well, I'm off to get some paddling/fishing in before the temperature hits the century mark.

I saw several whitetails on my last trip. I'll try to have my camera ready this time...
