After my suicide attempt, I was hospitalized for a month and my medication regimen altered. One of the meds I was put on was Seroquel, 350 MG. I learned that one of its side effects is weight gain, well while in the hospital I gained THIRTY-FIVE POUNDS-- that's over a pound a day. YUCK!

Even though I was slightly underweight before, at about 106, I would rather be 106 than 140. I'm disgusted with myself-- I can easily feel all the extra weight I have on. And I will lose it, but it sucks, because I am a food lover and I have to go on a really strict diet to get rid of this. My goal is to get down into the 110s.

So if anyone is on Seroquel, beware! Its effect on appetite is deadly.

Are you sure it wasn't the hospital stay along with the meds? One of the things that I notice in psych wards is that it's very easy to gain weight, partially because they tend to feed you a lot (they have snacks in a bin in addition to meals, and you could eat as much as you wanted) and you don't get to exercise.

Unfortunately, you will still have to watch what you eat even after the weight loss, because the Seroquel tends to make it easy to regain weight. I used to be on it myself, but that was a long time ago. 8)

Yes, certainly the hospital stay was part of it, but Seroquel is definitely complicit. I don't like the drug, for other reasons too. Mainly it kills your sex drive.

Yeah, all the drugs of that class tends to do that. Risperdal can even cause diabetes (sometimes, not always, of course). So, it may also be more than just appetite; it may actually slow down metabolism (or something like that), too.
