Since last winter I have been sleeping through my alarm and often missing 11:00 classes b/c of it. I had leg surgery in July and my legs were hurting worse prior and I thought they may have something to do with it. It's weird b/c my alarm will be turned off sometimes and I won't remember having done it. Does anyone else struggle with this?

I've had this happen since high school (over 15 years ago) including the alarm being turned off. Now I use my cell phone and set multiple alarms on it which usually seems to help.

Put the alarm clock on the other side of the room, so you have to get up to turn it off.

I prefer a clock radio, because the radio coming on allows me to wake up more gradually, without the temptation to hit a snooze button. I put in on NPR, so the newscasters' voices talking will get my attention. I might sleep right through music.

There's a special alarm clock made for people with this problem. It runs away from you :) so you can't just turn it off in your sleep. It is called Clocky, and you can find it at http://nandahome.com/products/clocky/.

I've always had this problem. I've tried putting the alarm across the room and it doesn't work. I even bought one of those super loud truck driver alarms that you have to push more than one button at once to turn off. I still manage to turn it off in my sleep. Literally the only way I can wake up is if a person wakes me up either in person or calls on the phone. Yes, I'm 32 and I ask my mom to call me to wake me up when I have to get up at a specific time.

I think I am on the opposite side of the spectrum. I am a very light sleeper, and I overslept exactly one in my life, when I was... in 3rd grade. When I go to bed and think: well, tomorrow, you get up at 7 a.m., I get up at 7 a.m. I used to own an alarm clock, but don't use it anymore, because I ended up waking up about 5 minutes before my alarm would sound.

Alarm clocks and myself have always had issues. beeper or buzzer, music is worse though

The sound "becomes' part of the dream. example

.... as I am walking in my house looking out the window I see a red car ..parked on the sidewalk. Not anywhere near the street, but right in front of my living room window ! !...... I was sleeping in the living room, where the alarm was set and placed on the coffee table.........In the dream the alarm goes off, reality also, but in the dream I try to turn it off. I kept pressing that button and it wouldnt stop beeping, until I realized it was a dream. It took a while........why won't it shutting off ? I pressed it 3 times, and slid the switch , it should stop.........oh its a dream clock, not the real one.

From what I hear, my middle nephew is like this. He can sleep through anything! Alarms are not much help. His mom wakes him up when necessary. Figure once he grows up, if he remains the same, he might be looking into a special wake up clock.

I'm the opposite. For what ever reason, if I set an alarm there is a good chance I'll wake up an hour before the siren is to go off.

Ha, that Clocky is hilarious!

I often sleep through alarms I set that are only meant to "get me up at a decent hour" , if there's no reason I absolutely have to be up,I can't make myself get up. I'm usually better with alarms when I have to go somewhere, but I usually give myself a half hour to get up.

I've definitely had the not remembering shutting the alarm off and music becoming part of my dream before, though.
