I'm 18 years old and I have had this undying love for anything sweet for about... my entire life. Reese's Cups, chocolate bars, Pocky sticks, Dots, lollipops, Hubba Bubba bubble gum (and NO other gum mind you :wink:), you get the point. How I am in the (dare I say) pretty dang good shape I'm in is a mystery to everyone considering how much of this glorious sweet stuff I consume hourly. I've woken up craving cotton candy. My bedside drawer is stuffed with sweets just for occasions like that, and I've always got cargo pants on in order to carry more around with me. My friends call me "Sweetie" and "Sugar" for reasons that are probably apparent, and my mom still uses my nickname "Cookies and Cream" in honor of my favorite non-candy treat.

I do work out regularly and have never realy gotten hyper off all this sugar, but I've actually experienced withdrawl. Going half a day without a single Kiss or Pixy Stick sent me into a horrid headache and the most utterly PMSy mood ever. I ate an entire tub of ice cream once I made it 24 hours.

My doctor says it's fine, as long as I'm exercising and eat my daily lot of nutritional crap, but my therapist seems to think this is a problem :roll:. It's not like I can't afford it. Am I the only one who has this issue lol? I think it's harmless really.

Also, is this the right forum?

I love sweets and chocolate. It's all I spend my money on, spare video games. I'm also in an okay shape. I try not to eat chocolate but it's horrible without it.

Yes, this is the right forum since it is health you're mostly talking about. I am also one of those people who can eat a fair amount of stuff and remain in shape, but to answer your question, I think that it's perfectly harmless right now. loove sweets(especially chocolate)

You don't sound too adversely effected, but your therapist is right. An alcoholic can look at act healthy when they really aren't.

This is a bad sign. It's a bad sign your doctor should have picked up on. You are forcing your pancreas to make enormous amounts of insulin in order to clear the enormous amounts of glucose out of your bloodstream. The enormous amounts of insulin work and the glucose is cleared and suddenly your brain realizes it doesn't have the glucose it needs because every last bit got cleared out. So you get the cravings, put in more glucose, and the cycle repeats. A pancreas that is only 18 years old can deal with that stress. A pancreas that is 40 years old won't be able to. That's how adult-onset diabetes happens.

When that intense craving hits, try to feed it with something that will release glucose into your bloodstream at a slower rate. Fresh fruit or complex carbohydrates (bread, rice etc.) will give your body and brain the glucose it is using for fuel but at a slower rate so your pancreas won't have to go overboard with enormous amounts of insulin.

I have given up grains myself, as even that amount of carbohydrate causes my body to make too much insulin. But you are young, far younger than me, and there is time to turn this around before your body gets to the pre-diabetic state that mine did.
