Anyone have any experience/interest in figure skating?
So as of late, this is becoming one of my big athletic hobbies/special interests. I started on rental hockey skates, and then as I saw 100 pound figure skaters FLY past me exerting very little effort while I was dying on my hockey skates, I was quite impressed, and this summer I switched to figure skates finally. I've been skating since March of last year, and switched to figure skates in the summer. Right now, as far as skill level, once I can do my right outside three turns, I'll probably be able to pass the first adult test for USFSA.
What I'm wondering is, though it seems like it could be a longshot, does anyone else have any figure skating experience? Even as a kid, maybe? I'm especially looking for other guys' input. I know, longshot, but I figured I'd ask. For me, a lot of my questions aren't quite too much the technical stuff for you, but mostly social stuff. How was it dealing with other skaters, and coaches, etc? Anyone ever get into pairs or ice dancing? Right now I'm not really exposed to that part of it all, as I'm still going to public sessions, and the only people I talk to really besides one girl are a bunch of older people who I ask for advice on stuff. But, I'm assuming once/if I get into the more "serious" level, it'll be quite a bit different of an atmosphere.
Again, it's a longshot asking on here, but who knows.
Also, if anyone would like to discuss anything about figure skating in this thread, feel free. Or if you got questions, I could maybe answer them, but my actual ability as far as figure skating goes is like 2/10, so yeah... I do tend to store up encyclopedic knowledge about things like this, though. So who knows.
Anyway, thanks.
I'm a woman and I'm into football, muscle building, and pro wrestling if anyone (just the ladies please) wants to give me pointers

a friend of mine a while back hooked me up on a blind date with a friend of his GF. the "date" happened to be outside ice skating. I bought a pair of "hockey" skates on Friday, went to an open skate on Saturday, fell once, and then had the date on Sunday,......and she couldn't skate, yet had her own pair o skates.
We went on a few more dates but it really didn't work out,.........so....I started playing hockey that week also.
two weeks and 22 stitches later I decided I had better get a helmet and some other gear. I never really got very good at skating backwards but I could stop on a dime and switch up ice easily.
and thats how I got the matching scar above the left eye to match the childhood one above my right eye perfectly ! ! (that was from a trapeze though)
did someone say wrestling ?...oh that kind,
not the real stuff, nevermind...

My daughter skated competitively for several years. She had to get out of it when she started having pretty serious knee problems from jumping. There are a lot of levels of competitve figure skating and the atmosphere is different for all of them. The experience for a child skater and an adult skater is very different. The stories I could tell you about skaters, parents, and coaches--good, bad, and ugly--might be entertaining but I'm not sure how pertinent they would be to your experience. Technical questions I might be able to be more helpful with, and I could ask my daughter about specific move mechanics. My best advice to you though, is...Never forget that you are supposed to be having fun. It's really easy to get bogged down in technique in figure skating, especially if you decide to compete, at any level. Enjoy yourself! It's a great sport.
