I've read this myth that muscle all starts turning into fat the second you stop exercising.

I'm not mega muscular, but what I did put on in the last couple years is pretty much all still there, and I haven't even done a set of chin ups or press ups for like... months

I don't even eat much protein.

Am I a freak or is the myth wrong?

I imagine that if you're super huge and you stop, then you might lose gains more rapidly?

And it seems highly possible that when someone who is a body builder quits working out but remains on the same diet, that would be a recipe for fat storage.

This.

muscle cant actually turn to fat, if you stop exercising your body might catabolise the muscle if your not using it (break it down and use it for fuel) but it wont turn to fat, eating too much such as carrying on eating lots will grow new fat cells, but one does not turn into the other.

If you are not eating to little and still use those muscles there is no reason for them to catabolise, for example doing chores might be enough to keep them going. And being a man you have all those anabolic hormones rushing round your body which break down fat and build muscle so that will help you not break down your muscle despite not training.
