I'm starting ice skating lessons tomorrow (indoors obviously) and I don't know what to wear. It's been extremely hot outside (high 90's) and it's freezing inside the place. I know not to wear jeans, but not sure what I should wear as far as clothing goes. Can someone who has ice skated before please help me? Thank you!

When I go ice skating, I wear 2 or 3 layers, because you get quite warm and you might want to take a layer off after you've been skating a while.

Thick socks are good if you're blister prone at all, it helps protect your feet a bit, and any trousers which dry quickly if you fall are good, the rink near me always has a thin layer of water on it where the chopped up ice has been melting....

Also, you may want gloves, if your hands get cold easily. I don't normally bother though.
Have fun :D

I disagree, the indoor rinks aren't that cold inside, like 40 or so. I say pretty much all you need is, a tshirt, a hoodie or sweater to wear for your first 15 minutes or so skating (you'll warm up after that.) Jeans, especially girl jeans are too tight to skate well in, most girls wear leggings and a skirt. Gloves you may want, or not. As far as thick socks, disagree more, it's better to wear thin socks, the main problem people have with blisters is they fit their skates wrong. For skates, you generally go one to three sizes down from your shoe size. You want them tight enough so your big toe hits the end of the skate, but not too too tight so your feet hurt a lot, but it's better to go on tighter and a little painful than loose. Also the other problem with thick socks is they make you lose ice feel. But also, thick socks will exacerbate blisters sometimes, as they'll fill with sweat and then you'll have more friction, whereas thin socks (like dress socks for guys) will slide in the boot, no friction, no blisters.

BTW, correct size skates are like, 90% of the battle for new skaters. Basically, your skates are too big if the blades are like / \ on the ice, they should be like | | (or very very close to it) on the ice when you're standing neutrally. If you got any ice skating questions, feel free to ask, I love it and skate almost everyday.

You can wear a warm up suit. If you want to spend some money, buy one of those figure skating outfits at a pro shop.

When I used to figure skate, I wore thick leggings and a thick but tight jumper/top. You have to get the balance between tight (because it's difficult to pull off some stuff if everything isn't clinging to you :P ) and warm (because it's cold in there! Although it's true you warm up after a while).
