I wasn't sure where to put this so I thought this would be the nearest sufficient place.
I am worried because I keep smelling a mild smell of sweat under my arms. It doesn't rise, but if I just have a T-shirt on and I'm doing something where I'm lifting my arms, I often catch a smell of sweat, which is highly embarrassing if other people smelt it if they're near enough, because they might think I don't wash.

I always shave my armpits, and I put roll-on deodorant on every morning. I've tried lots of different types but it still doesn't stop me from sweating. I have to change my T-shirt every day, even in the winter, because I can always smell a slight onion-y smell under my armpits on the T-shirt and I worry that if I wear the same T-shirt for more than one day, I would sweat again and then it will smell stronger. We don't have a shower in our old-fashioned bathroom but I do try to have a bath every 2 or 3 days, and if I don't have a bath then I have a quick wash in the sink under my arms, using soap and water, then I wash it off thoroughly and dry with a clean towel. Other places don't sweat, just my armpits.

I heard of a physical disorder some people can get, where they can't stop sweating under their arms and there's no cure or anything to help prevent it, and I worry that I might be getting something like that, like having overactive sweatglands or something. It'd be just my luck to get something like that.

I'm also disturbed because I saw my boyfriend for the first time today, and because the air has been very humid lately, I've been sweating a few times throughout the day, and when I got home I found my armpits smelt when I took my jumper off, and I just hope my boyfriend didn't smell it. Now I'm scared to wear just a T-shirt when with other people. But sweating when out is beyond my control, whether I wash and put deodorant on or not. Does anyone else have this? Is there a way I can prevent it?

Roll-on deodorant basically sucks. Medically, magnesium is supposed to help with that sort of thing. Some people rub magnesium under their armpits. So you could try that. Or just eat more magnesium/take supplements for it. I think also possibly, you could try magnesium citrate or sulfate, I forget which one, but applied to the skin.

As far as deodorants go, basically the only brand I find strong enough is Old Spice. You could start wearing guy deodorant.

It's 100% normal to have an odor there; men and women alike. You can try various deodorant-antiperspirants until you find one better than others. I like Mitchum unscented invisible solid. I think it's intended for men, but honestly it's the same stuff as ladies' Mitchum, which is simply in a different color package at a higher price. What you eat is also a BIG factor. Unfortunately, healthful foods seem to be the cause of body odor, so it's not just people who eat wisely or unwisely who might have the problem.

When you mention the condition of sweating uncontrollably, that's not the same condition as an odor problem. In fact, I have the uncontrollable sweating problem, and no odor at all (even if I don't use deodorant for a couple days). That's called axillary hyperhydrosis. If you're not constantly soaking wet under the arms, you don't have hyperhydrosis.

There are other things you can do besides just washing very well and using deodorants... Chlorophyll tablets or capsules in the 100-mg dose (from vitamin stores- no prescription needed in the USA; not sure in GB). Those cause your body to handle enzymes and proteins differently when it comes to where the excess is thrown out (in sweat or in the bathroom, etc). It works well for many people.

Honestly, anyone who has NO body odor problem, is probably with a hormone imbalance. So in other words, it's a sign you're normal even though most women would never admit to that...

Can you find clinical strength deodorant where you are? There's also powder and body spray. I put deodorant on the pits and body spray on the torso because sometimes, when it's really hot out, my chest can smell like the pits. I find body spray stops it though. Clinical strength deodorant is the type that doctors prescribe. They sell it in the stores in the US. If they don't sell it where you are, perhaps you can ask a doctor about prescribing it for you?

if it might make you more comfortable, when you see your boyfriend, have a quick spruce before you see him.

keep some baby wipes, a strong deodorant, some body spray in a bag and make yourself more confident anytime during the day.

I'm only suggesting this as it may help your confidence at the moment. I actually think people use all sorts of daft products to disguise rather nice human body smells.

Personally I love the smell of fresh sweat on my bloke. Its intimate and lovely and drives me totally nuts.

Since I developed perfume allergy I have almost stopped using deodorant. I shave my armpits and wash (with perfumefree soap). I might give of a little smell sometimes but that is only natural (well I am a biologist :D ). If I am going to an official meeting, where I must give a speech, and I am nervous, I will use deodorant. I find that the smell of the nervous me, is different from the normal me!

Actually I find strong smelling perfume (including deodorant, aftershawe etc.) rather repulsive.

That's the problem I have with clinical strength. It is very, very strong. It might be too strong for sensitive skin. I stopped using it and went back to regular strength. Plus, it's more expensive.

There's always powder but be careful not to poof it too much because it creates a lot of dust. If you use body spray, wait until your t shirt is on, then spray it so it doesn't get into the air as much. I don't like breathing it in when it is first being sprayed.

Sweat is trapped by hair and therefore kept closer to the body.

I stink to high heaven if I shave my armpits.

I second the vote(s) for powder- better to absorb the moisture than try to cover up the smell.

I use a lot of deodourant in the mornings, so I stink the bathroom out. Use spray deodourant, or rub a roll-on over a larger surface area. I always carry a deodourant with me 'cos I'm just a bit paranoid about it, when I probably have nothing to worry about. I guess my stronger sense of smell doesn't help me much. I smell everything that nobody else does, and can tell when food is off, sooner.

Also note, some deodourants (especially roll-ons) kind of mix with sweat and produce yellow stains on tops, that don't come out in the wash. They smell fine out the wash, but when you put them on they start to produce a horrible smell, yuck. I suppose the same can happen with bras too. The only way once it's there is to throw away the tops. I noticed this roll-on made with some crystal stuff produced sweat stains. Some deodourants are worse than others.

One of my daughters sweats a lot like that. She uses Secret Clinical Strength Deoderant. It's worked well for her so far.

Also, avoid alcohol. It always makes sweat smell worse.

Your supposed to change your shirt every day. :D

I think only being able to bath every 2-3 days is not helping. I always do it daily. It sounds like you just have a bath tub.

I'm wondering if something like this might help: http://www.amazon.com/Holmz-Selfix-0443 ... B001AZHM1O

I notice that your using deodorant. Have you tried using antiperspirant? It will help with the sweating that causes the smell. I don't know of any girls who use plain deodorant, they all use the antiperspirant.
