Does anyone know how I can tell if its healing or getting infected? I looked up some symptoms of infection and I cannot see anything but it also mentioned symptoms like nausea and some other physical things which I experience when cleaning it and a while after but those things could also be attributed to it just being painful I mean it is on my hand right on my middle finger but kinda low like right on my knuckle and goes half way up my finger.

It does not exactly appear to be getting worse but in the center its rather dark colored and the skin around it is a bit red and sensetive but kind of whitish right between the scrape and the unscraped skin. I just don't know if it should be hurting this long I got it Saturday and it's Wednesday. Also I didn't really treat it till later the next day I just washed it with soap and water and rinsed it out a few times but had no antibiotic ointment or anything I had to wait till I got home.

Anyways I've cleaned it with peroxide, but I looked that up on the internet and a lot of sources say not to use peroxide on scrapes because it irritates the skin. One said to just use water so I tried that but I couldn't help thinking it needed a little more sanitary of a cleaning than the tap water around here would provide so I put some in a cup with a couple drops of tea tree oil and soaked it for a few minutes the last time and put anti-biotic ointment on it....I have been switching between that and aloe-vera straight from the plant oh and lavender oil but that kinda dried it out too much.

Sorry this is long I've just never had a scrape that's bothered me so much for this long....so I am just kinda concerned about it.

Generally it's only infected if the area around it gets red or swollen, or if it starts leaking puss. I'd post pictures, but just google how infected cuts and puss looks and see for yourself, I don't want to post nasty pictures here. You might wanna take vitamin C, to help heal up stuff faster.

Well yeah I can look the pictures up myself...and it is kinda red but does not seem very swollen. I do have vitamin C and I think I even have tea that's good for immunity or something so I could have some of that.

I'm never really too extreme anymore washing out cuts, to a point I just expect the body to adapt. I don't think I've ever had an infected cut. Maybe I just have super genetics or something. Also I try to take off bandages at night, as I believe cuts heal faster when exposed to air. Also, don't pick scabs. Picking scabs makes it take longer to heal, but it also has a higher chance of scarring when you pick scabs.

If it's near a part of your finger that flexes, it will take longer to heal.

I'd say put some neosporin and a band-aid on it and don't pick at it for a day or so.

As long as there's no pus and you don't have a fever, it probably is not infected.

i find and and finger cuts usually take a long time to heal as i use my hands and bash/scrape the cut. I guess it varries from person to person. i rarely use any bandages or clean cuts (small ones) and i've not had any infection problems

dressing it and cleaning could be a source of irritation

I tried that but that just makes it hurt worse and more consistently because any pressure on it seems to irritate it. . I had gauze on it last night but I had to tape it so it was attatched to my hand but not at all directly touching the scrape and even then it was scraping against it every time I move my hand so I figured that might be more detrimental to the healing.

Yeah I think that was part of the problem.....the peroxide seemed to be doing more irritating than good. So now it's just water, tea tea oil in water if need be and anti-biotic ointment or whatever or aloe vera since it dries out way to much if I don't put anything on it. But yeah I have mostly left it uncovered and was just being careful not to scrape it against anything.

The best thing for it is to put Neosporin or similar antibiotic ointment and a NexCare waterproof bandage.

got the neosporin...I could go get the band aids but I don't think those would hurt any less than the regular ones, if not more....do the waterproof ones have little holes for air flow? or is it one of those liquid type ones?....I haven't tried anything like that yet so maybe.

The best thing about the waterproof Nexcare is it stays put for a few days so by the time it comes off, the scrape might have healed. It also comes off easily. They are not liquid. They are more like a clear, light, thin, flexible plastic. I like them so much, I won't buy any other band aids. I don't like the feeling of band aids on my fingers in particular but I can put a NexCare Waterproof on them when needed and since the adhesive goes all the way around the pad, none of the bandage part sticks out. I don't like it when the gauze part hangs over the end of my finger. I like to use the adhesive part of igloo it around the tip of my finger. NexCare also makes a bandage especially for blisters. I haven't tried them. I find the Waterproof ones work on blisters as well without coming off which is the case with Band Aid brand band aids that I have used.

Hmm well if it did not hurt so much having any pressure whatsoever on it I'd go for it, I mean the way it looks having a band aid on it might even prevent all the skin layers or whatever got scraped to grow back as it seems to go down a couple thin layers or something.

Peroxide should be used the first time you clean the injury, but in later cleanings, you can use just soap and water. Do put ointment or Aloe, or Tea tree oil on it after cleaning. Whether to bandage depends on the location and severity of the injury. I do use bandaids when necessary, but find that if left on for a while, my skin reacts badly to the glue. I even had an injury that got better, while the area around the pad, that was covered by the sticky part became an injury due to the reaction to the glue. 8O

I buy different brands of bandages, depending on what I need, what's available, and what's the best bargain that meets the first and second criteria.

For your injury, no more need for the peroxide, but do put some ointment on and a bandage during the day at least, as it is on your finger. The location causes frequent flexing and contact, which cause pain, so the bandage may help cushion it. At night put on more ointment or aloe, and keep using a bandage at night until it starts to feel better. You may also want to wear a glove during the day to cushion it more.

If it still gives you a lot of trouble with little sign of improvement by the end of the week, or gets worse, perhaps you should then see a doc for this.

I don't find the NexCare puts pressure on, but it sure does keep the oxygen out and it getting infected and with the antibiotic ointment, it stops hurting after a few minutes. If I don't put anything on it, little cuts can throb for days.

:nerdy:

They are 4 humors in the body: blood, yellow bille, black bille and phlegm. When they are out of balance then they are problems developing.

Your depression is due to an excess of black bile. Vinegar enemas will fix this up. Your scrape doesn't heal because of an excess of blood, a leach therapy is advisable. You should also take care of what you eat, there's an excess of dry and cold in your food.

And don't forget to sacrifice a white pigeon to Apollo for luck.
