My family is big into the Olympics, every day they watch them, and shout at the T.V. while watching. No other time do they watch sports at all, but when the Olympics are on, they are so.. involved.

I don't understand this. Any idea why people are this way?

Perhaps they like rooting for their country in sports, instead of rooting for a town. Sort of like a national pride for something, or maybe they like being different by watching the Olympics. :)

I don't usually watch sports, but I love watching the Olympics. I think it's because it's a worldwide spectacle and you get to see athletes who you've never heard of, but who excel at their specialty.

I can see part of this in my family. They like to root for US people, and yam it up about how great the US is and what not.

^^ Greetings Pondering.

I believe that I often really enjoy viewing tennis matches, however I believe that I often do not watch other happy sports. ^^ However, I believe that I have really enjoyed watching many Olympic sports during this time as I have really enjoyed learning of many sports that I have not watched so much within the past. However, I am very sorry as I believe that I have not shouted at my television, yet my lovely mother has done so.

I'm not into sport and I'm loving the Olympics.
Its the variety thats fun, its not just routing for Team GB. Usually the only sport I am aware of on TV is football, and they are a bunch of spoilt and shallow brats.

The Olympics has good stories, variety and excellent role models:
- Gold medal winning cyclist Laura who was born with a collapsed lung and had asthma,
- Mo Farah, Somali refugee gets asylum aged 8, wins gold, shows what a wonderful contribution asylum seekers can make to UK, and gives young Somali men badly needed boost
etc. etc.

Much more interesting that spoilt brats getting drunk and abusive. I guess that is what Im used to thinking of as TV sport. I cant be arsed looking for other sports that might be more entertaining to wathc normally, but for the Olympics it all there on a plate.

I'd say it's the same thing in my family in that we don't really watch much sports, but the Olympics have been on since the opening ceremonies. What's nice is seeing sports you don't normally see, and being able to celebrate when someone wins their country's first medal in a particular event. While I'm an American and happy to live here, I don't get the Fox News mentality that if you don't think the US is superior, you're not patriotic enough. After all, they were among those who criticized Gabby Douglas on her hair and leotard color instead of being happy she won that gold medal.

The Olympics have different sports from what is normally televised. It's not as if there is a professional gymnastics, Tae Kwan do, Judo, or weight lifting seasons where you can watch them for a few months out of the year. Simply because I think soccer, hockey, basketball, etc... sucks to watch doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching any sport once in a while. Once every 2 years is good enough for me.

I'm not a big sports fan, but I do like the olympics. Why? Because I get to watch beautiful young women in skimpy clothes, playing beach volley ball, doing gymnastics or water sports. It doesn't make me aroused, but it's like enjoying a beautful view. Uplifting and meditative.

No idea. Sports to me are about on par with knitting competitions.
