I am a cross country runner; does anyone else enjoy cross-country. I used to run for London secondary schools, but I no longer go to school now.

I also walked 10 miles today (from Rosehill to Hammersmith) and it was rather enjoyable. Does anyone else here like walking for a few hours? I walked along Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and the Thames path. It was pleasant, shame about the heat though.

I do, it's like a form of meditation.

I wish I could do it way more often without it qualifying as overtraining.

I am also a cross country runner. I usually run 20 kilometers, although I competted only once for that distance (half a marathon) back when I was 15. They told me I WOULD HAVE won if they had more narrow age groups; but since my age group was so wide (15-33) there was someone 30-something who ran faster.

On the other hand, I ran cross country in high school and we regularly ran for 3 miles. I usually did it in around 18-19 minutes, while my best time was 17 minutes and 5 seconds. I was the best in my team, but my team was very bad (it was 2-nd from the end) so overall I was 29-th out of 105. I was the only one in my team above average -- the next person was 60-something out.

I like walking too. For the most part I just like the "randomness" of it where I don't know where a given road will lead. Typically I end up walking from the middle of the city towards its suburbs in hope of finding some other civilized spot somewhere and/or end of the road. Usually I dont find either, and after walking for few hours I run out of patience and come back. But if I DO find something, like place to eat, that would be my favorite restaurant for a while since it would be a nice "getaway". But then eventually I will get bored walking that particular road and look for something else.

So how about yourself? Do you also enjoy walking spontaneously, or do you usually plan ahead?

I love running, run six miles every morning and did a half marathon last year. Would love to do a full one someday...

I only do so via treadmill, and I alternate walking with running (max I can do is 5.5 miles).

I wouldn't mind cross country if I knew where the hell to go (not including parks where you look for those wooden stumps that tell you where to go)

i used to run cross country, i don't think i ever ran more than 4 or 5 miles in competition though. I usually started slow and then sped up just for the motivation of passing people. i was pretty good but there were several better people on my school team

i had to run 5 miles with a my bike (flat tire) to catch the last bus home two weeks ago, seriously hard work for me but i was so happy to make the bus. I would have had either a 30 mile walk starting at 11pm or a £40-50 taxi fare otherwise!

I love running.I've run on and off since I did track and field in high school.Every day I run two miles in nature,it feels so amazing,I'm in really good shape, love being outdoors. When I can,I walk everywhere I can,to the store,to do errands,to the farmer's market.I love walking,I don't understand why people don't walk more. You interact with nature and with more people!

I've been running for a few months now and do about 2 or 3 miles a day. I'm really enjoying it and would love to be able to do a marathon in the future.

I really loathe exercise- I just do it in an effort to stave off weight.

I'm considering taking up running for the first time.
Up until now, I mainly just walk on a treadmill, since I can turn down the lights, and it's air-conditioned.

But it's been cooling off where I live, and that, in addition to my weight absolutely stagnating,
has gotten me considering running in the evenings when it isn't as bright.

I can't run on the treadmill because I trip.
I'm thinking my old workout isn't working anymore because it's become easy and my heartrate stays essentially the same when I'm doing it.
I hope it's that.

Did anyone else find that the actually gained weight when they started to run? I didn't change any diet things except having a banana before I run so i don't get dizzy but I put on nearly a stone and have no idea why! Can't all be muscle, lol.

I usually plan where I'm going beforehand so that I can get home ok. BUT I do "Get Lost in London" walks (we named it that) with my friend, where we start at a random station in London and walk in random directions. Once we started at Earls Court and ended up in Camden, then Hoxton, and then SE20, wherever that postcode is. Another time we covered 21 miles in one day.

I like walking to Waterloo Statioon (11 miles), but I often forget how to get from Elephant and Castle to the Thames.

This September I am hoping to do loads of exercise, before uni starts in October.
