I eat too much sugar (and caffeine)...infact to be honest, it's pretty much the only thing I run on. I hate the sensation of food inside me and I have an eating disorder (severely bulimic with anorexic traits) which further complicates things...I'm also highly selective over what I will and won't eat, I have an extremely limited diet, I mean extremely. Does anyone else struggle with the same type of problems? How do you begin to change this?

Yes, I've had similar problems, except that sugar/carbohydrates are one of the things I avoid. For a while it kind of took over my life, and finally when I was about to flunk out of college in my senior year and/or die, I decided I had to do something about it.

...And now, after seeing three psychiatrists (only one of whom was any use), I'm at least medicated into, er, semi-functionality.

It is possible to gradually get used to the sensation of having eaten and not freak out and have to "correct" it. It's just a very slow process if you're not used to digesting anything ever (not sure what your exact situation is, but that was mine). It's less bad if you start with small amounts of things that are quickly digested; that way you don't feel too horribly full, and you stop feeling full sooner. Plain, non-fat yogurt pretty much saved my life in this respect...To this day, breakfast every day = 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/2 cup coffee.

As for an extremely limited diet...I'm still working on that myself. I eat pretty much the same three things every day, but at least they're mostly vegetable and have vitamins and stuff.

I have an extremely limited diet - I eat the same things every day. The more stressed I am, the more restricted my diet becomes. I'm trying changing only very small things in an attempt to eat more variety. I'm also trying cooking things, as suggested by my psychiatrist.
I was diagnosed as being intolerant to gluten and diary. I think I probably eat too much sugar because there's lots of sugar in gluten-free foods, and fruits and fruit juices.

Well I can buy into most prepared fruit juices being off the charts on concentrated sugar..but as an old horribly back slidden raw vegan..lol. I can assure a person cant get anything to hurt themselves out of copious consumption of fresh raw fruits or veggies. Might I recommend fresh fruit for breakfast just to get started? Eat all you want. Its ok. i done it. Even if eaten early it knocks the appetite till way past lunch. It will make any thin or chubby person hit their ideal body weight. Now I have more secrets after you have done that for a few weeks. For the weak..good grade glycerine is a great healthy sweetner. Effects blood sugar not at all..is 2/3 as sweet as sugar..and has the consistency of honey. Absolutely no bad after taste as is the custom of many sugar substitutes. NOW brand is the best I've found. Cheerio.

Thankyou for the replies, it's good to know other people have managed to move forward.

I'm terrified of gaining weight which further compounds this...certainly makes this more multi-faceted. Sugar feels safer than a lot of the other things...fibre frightens me because it feels like food too much. I've got very stuck into drinking things like chocolate soya milk (pretty much the only thing i take in during the day other than pepsi max which is practically no calories) which is a better compromise but still not perfect. Food scares me...the sensation always leads me to have to binge and vomit because even as a child full feels like hungry...it feels the same and I've never been able to tell if I'm hungry or full. As a child I would eat however much was put infront of me which would sometimes lead to me getting sick because if the portion was too big I would eat it and wouldn't realise until it was too late. I also can't tell if I'm thirsty or not.

Well those are surely some issues. The scariest part of your regiment in my view is the Pepsi. Not sure whats in it but can assure you it is not good for supporting human life. Try sipping on this instead:

H2 Orange

3/4 glass ice water
1/4 glass regular old orange juice (or red wine yum yum)

Drink all you want all day long. Will level out blood sugar spikes and keep you hydrated. If you sip on it constantly you will not have to worry about whether you are thirsty or not. Si si? High fructose corn syrup and artificial sweetners kill folks. PS Edit: Also meant to say it speeds up the metabolism and make a person lose a lot of weight. Just the thing to achieve your goal. Have you tried the fresh fruit for breakfast strategy yet?
