I ate fried chicken for lunch/supper Saturday that was pretty hot. I think I may of burned my mouth a little on it(my mouth is very sensitive to temperatures) & Sunday I had a big sore inside my mouth on the back of my upper lip. My girlfriend looked at it & she noticed a mark like it could of been cut there; it's possible I could of bit it. I feel it hitting the side of my teeth & gums & it's been feeling really sore at times especially when I'm eating, talking a bit & it sometimes burns when I drink anything(even water). My girlfriend suggested I try orajel to numb the pain but I didn't try because I imagine it would hurt a lot to put it on sense bumping the sore with my tongue can hurt a lot; I don't think the temporary relief would be worth more pain at 1st but I would of tried for permanent relief. I started taking a couple chewable asprin a bit before I eat to help with the pain. I figured the chewable asprin would be better for me than the regular asprin & other pain meds sense it's more mild & would get dissolved in my mouth which is where the pain is. The sore is doing a bit better this evening & tonight but I'm wondering what can I do about things like this in the future; It's not uncommon for me to burn my mouth some on hot food or to bite the inside of my cheek or something while eating.

i believe that if it is a fresh wound that you will heal within the week, but you could help it along by regular mouthrinsing with an analgesic mouthwash, followed by cold-water rinses. alternately, use a gentle non-alcohol mouthwash [swishing around the injured area especially] and follow it with a cold-water soak, then apply an analgesic [containing benzocaine] oral jel, such as orajel, to the sore spot. also, it is very important now that you keep your whole oral cavity/mouth very clean and moisturized between meals and that you stick to eating cold or lukewarm foods until the sore has healed. it sounds like you inadvertently bit yourself, that is a common location for such injuries, probably because you were distracted by eating food that was too hot/hadn't cooled off sufficiently before you put it in your mouth. so determine never again to eat food unless it has cooled off, even if you have to wait a while. if you do eat something a bit too hot, always be sure to have a cold beverage ready to swig to cool things off. when chewing chewy things, always be mindful of your cheeks and soft tissues inside your lips, that will save you from biting too hard and pinching/abrading/lacerating them. also you might want to find out if you grind your teeth at night, sometimes people wake up with ground-up cheeks from that, i know because i used to do it when i was stuck in a stressful job, and i would toss and turn and nightmare at night and wake up with sore jaws and ground-up cheeks.
good luck to you.
