I practice Zen meditation, and while healthy, am not really athletic. Someone I practice with suggested I try Tai Chi as a means of body practice. She suggested yoga as well, but said Tai Chi is a tiny bit more accessible to me. I have serious balance issues that make many yoga poses difficult for me without taking classes (and like hell I'm spending that money), but I wouldn't mind giving Tai Chi a try.

Does anyone know anything about the sport, if it can be called that?

I haven't seen a person younger than 40 in Tai Chi at my college, I'm not sure what to make of it.

Try it. It is relaxing and helps improve balance and flexibility. I would say it will complement the meditation.
