Is there a better way to handle this?

My left ankle started hurting really bad about a month ago. I remedied it with some ankle wrapping for a while, and it went away. Last week, the pain came back, only it was really intense. The pain has been traveling up my leg into my knee, and just earlier this afternoon it was starting to affect my lower back. I haven't been doing anything that I usually don't do this time of the year, so I'm stumped at what's going on. I've fixed it temporarily by wrapping my ankle again, but I still have the back pain.

Help?

You should see a doctor. You may have an easily remedied issue with your foot/ankle, but if not taken proper care of it could turn into a chronic issue which could last a lifetime. Could be as simple as the shoes you're wearing, could be that you landed on it wrong. Either way a doctor can help sort you out properly.

Um, yeah.. See a doctor.

You haven't described what type of pain it is. If its a blood infection and traveling up, that's no good at all and would likely require meds asap. If its nerve pain and getting worse you may have a pinched nerve somewhere that's being damaged further the longer it isn't treated.

Or it could be something else entirely, but either way, go see a doctor andget it diagnosed properly vs trying to play guessing games on a forum - especially since its travelling up and getting worse.

You are probably compensating for the ankle pain, moving differently and causing the additional problems.

Anyway, off to the see doctor as soon as possible.

Probably. I just read a description of pronated walking in an article and it said if you walk on the outsides of your feet for long enough it will start with foot pain & then travel up and into your hips. This could be what it is and the OP may require some sort of orthotic from a pediatrist.

Thanks for the replies. My ankle gave out today, and I can't put any weight on it.

I'd describe the pain as a dull ache, and it doesn't go away entirely.
