Is it very unusual in modern times to take very long walks not in the wilderness or for a specific goal i.e. marathons or raising money? Just walking around in the city/suburbs.

I've taken at least half a dozen solitary walks where I've gone 20-30 miles, usually over the course of 8-12 hours. Either I would board a bus, ride for a long time and walk a scenic route home or start from home and take the bus home when I've walked as far as I wanted to. All in a pretty urban setting yet going places where there is some nature and other interesting sights mixed in here and there.

The last time I did this was about 7 years ago. (if I had google maps back in the day I could have calculated exact distances I've walked, I can only make approximate guesses now) I've gone on numerous walks since, just none long enough where I've thought it was highly unusual thing that almost no one else does. Unfortunately I haven't been taking good care of myself and I probably couldn't walk half as far as I used to without encountering serious problems. :(

I don’t see a problem if it makes you happy and you’re not bothering anyone.
Everyone has little quirks. Preferences.
If this is your biggest vice, I’d say you’re doing pretty well.
Is there a way to capitalize on this or turn this into a group activity?

Get back into it! I really really wish I did that. I'm going to start :)

There's nothing wrong with that, if I have a free day and the weather is beautiful outside, I will sometimes do the same thing!
The most miles I have tracked in a day is close to 20. Going for solitary walks and exploring is one of my favorite things to do.
If you enjoy it, by all means keep doing it, and if you're worried about your health, start slowly, and build your way up.
Do what makes you happy!
