The only gyms I've ever been in were in school. There's no way I would set foot in a public one.
Bought my first weight bench at 32, along with a couple of Arnold Schwarzenegger's books, so I could learn how to do it properly without injuring myself and began developing my own routines. That was over 20 years ago. Once I got in the habit of working out every day, not only did I enjoy it, but I actually feel guilty and nervous if I'm forced to skip a day for some reason. I just wish I'd been given the opportunity to weight train in High School. I had no interest in competitive team sports, but weight training is something you can do by and for yourself. Unless you're trying to get huge and lifting enough weight to need a spotter, there's no need for anyone else to be there distracting you with mindless chatter. I do at least 90 minutes a day now, between the weights, the treadmill and alternating a couple of prerecorded ab workouts, all at home.
