I personally don't have any good experience with sleeping except the part where I dream and get to do crazy a** stuff there. I usually slowly start to go to sleep at 9 PM but then I wake up 3-4 hours later and it just takes forever to go to sleep. Sleeping is odd, man.
What about you guys?

My dreams are vivid so they keep me twisting and turning all night. On the occasions I fall asleep on my couch, I get into sleep paralysis. I dream that I'm on the cusp of waking up but can't move my limbs and there's somebody about to break down the front door. It's bizarre but it happens. I'm on medication for it now and it seems to be working so far.

The positive side to my vivid dreams is, sometimes, I wake up and write them down into a short story. I then publish it on my blog or try to get it published somewhere else.

I slept OK last night I guess. I go through various phases with sleep. I toss & turn, wake up with my body in weird positions & sometimes a limb asleep, occasionally wake up with a leg cramp, sometimes have nightmares or bad dreams. I've had episodes of sleep paralysis & night terros when I was depressed or lonely. I sometimes have problems falling asleep, wake up a lot, or wake up early unable to go back to sleep. I think I average about 5-7hours. Some of the problems are/were psychological related. I haven't had eps of night terrors or sleep paralysis in a long time I think because I have a girlfriend to sleep with; I had problems sleeping when i was lonely or in long distance relationships. Having my anxiety & OCD managed helps too because that stuff used to keep me awake. It doesn't help having neighbors that make a lot of noise sometimes, construction going on across the street & that I go to bed in the morning. My girlfriend doesn't sleep well sometimes due to pain, anxiety or allergies & her not sleeping well probably affects my sleep. She talked to our GP doc about my sleep & she thinks I may have minor sleep apnea & wants me to get a sleep study. I have a deviated septum(the inside of my nose is crooked) & I had chronic sinus problems on & off all my life. I have allergies too but those are manged better by meds now. A deviated septum can contribute to sleep apnea & devices for sleep apnea may not work as well with it & a deviated septum can also affect sinuses. I talked to an ears nose & throat doc about getting my nose corrected & he'd approve for me to get surgery. I have another appointment with him at the end of this month to discuss the details & sign paperwork. The doc wants me to get a sleep study too but kind of agrees with me about wanting to correct the deviated septum 1st.

I sleep ok for most of the time; my insomnia is generally a thing of the past. It's probably been a month since my last sleep paralysis as well.

Are you on any meds to sleep better?

The only thing that lets me sleep is two percocets and a six pack of IPA....

I don't do that very often though..... since I don't have a spare liver.

I go to bed around 10pm, wake up anywhere between 2 am and 4 am, have difficulty falling back asleep for the next hour or so but then fall back asleep after that and wake up around 3 or so hours later. It seems I sleep in two parts.

I spent almost my entire life without a good nights sleep. I was miserable. I tried all kinds of over the counter and prescription sleep aids and nothing worked. I used to have a fitness bracelet that would record how many times I woke up during the night and I woke up on average 30 times a night (on the good nights).

Last Spring I was put on Ambian and I gave me no relief. I would even double the max dose and it still didn't help. In August I saw a new Dr and he prescribed me Trazadone to help me sleep. I take 200 mg a night along with an antidepressant (that induces sleep). When someone asks I tell them that "my sleeping meds could knock out a horse." I'm a very petite, and it amazes me that it takes 200 mg to put me to sleep.

I went through a phase of really bad sleep - the more I worried, the worse it got. I think worrying about it made the whole thing worse.
I'd be going through the entire day yawning every few minutes and I just felt like I had something really wrong with me.
Basically it happened after my mum died and had been really ill for a long time.
I ended up trying hypnotherapy and although it might sound wacky it really started working for me after a couple of sessions. I also got a few apps and hypnosis downloads for sleep which I still use.
I also found a couple of good apps on the app store which I use quite a lot.
I have some friends who found meditation and yoga also really help - learning to relax deeply is really key to getting a good night's sleep.

I don't remember. I have sleep apnea and use a cpap. It's uncomfortable and I wake up usually around 4 hours. When I do I can't fall back asleep without taking it off. When I don't use the cpap, my sleep sucks and is of poor quality.

Mostly anti-psychotic, but they help me sleep well.

in 2011 there was about a three month period when I was on one sleeping pill that got me to sleep however the side effects became far too serious and I had to quit.

it has been at least 8 years since I have had a full nights sleep unaided (and not a single full nights sleep since 2011)

Far too long, far too long. I don't even remember when. I get an average of 3 hours of sleep each night.

Well, actually on weekends I get a healthy amount of sleep, but lately I've been having to wake up early to do other things so it hasn't been working out recently.

In middle school I used to have horrible insomnia, as it would take me 3-4 hours to fall asleep. Now it takes me like, at most 20 minutes (occasionally an hour), but that's due to the fact that I am completely exhausted and already half-asleep by the time I get to bed. It's funny; I actually had more sleep back when I had insomnia than I do now. Or at least I was able to cope with little sleep then.

Ah, that sucks, pal. :( Hope you're okay now.
Do you have insomnia or sleep apnea or anything that triggers this? Have you asked your doctor to do some tests? It might be a really big problem but maybe nothing at all. It's best to be sure about these stuff. Take care, pal.
