I've been trying to eat more vegetarian lately...not because I am a vegetarian, but more because I'm trying to avoid processed meats (and I find vegetarian meals much easier to cook and deal with than handling raw meat). When I go to restaurants and such, I find that their vegetarian dishes are almost always absolutely terrible! The main reason is that they never have any protein source. A typical vegetarian meal at a restaurant pretty much consists of lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. It's extremely rare that I see any that have anything like lentils or quinoa in them.

Are there any chain restaurants that actually have good vegetarian selections?

You asked a good question. I know that restaurants are mandated to also have vegetarian selections for non-meat eaters. There are several Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian restaurants that serve all-vegetarian meals here in Seattle. Once I have the money I hope to visit them in the future.

I am a vegetarian. My favorite chain restaurant is Panera. There are a variety of items in different categories: sandwiches, soups. pasta, on their menu that are completely vegetarian. I am not sure whether you can always tell what is for sure vegetarian but they offer a book you can look at to check the exact ingredients.

I am also a vegetarian. For something quick and inexpensive you might try the Burger King veggie burger.

Makes me wonder where you live as wherever I've gone on my travels, even if it's a place where vegetarian food is very hard to find (looking at you France. And rural Scotland. But especially France), they always remember the protein. I've never ended up with a basic salad, honest. In England virtually everywhere has at least two vegetarian options, and funnily enough you're more likely to worry about not getting enough of your five-a-day from them than your dose of protein. America was the same fort me. In England the only problems come at football grounds, so I either look for a gastropub beforehand or take packed lunch.

Now I don't go to chains and it rarely even registers to me to visit one as an option, but anywhere worth their salt will find a cheese to go with that salad if you specify, and similar. If that sounds like an anal thing to do please be assured that a lot of us ask for extra toppings, or for xyz to be omitted from a meal we order. I know that's extremely plain but you might be stuck for choice. Usually places with more vegetarian options tend to do higher quality food anyway, and I hear that feedback from meat eaters.
